To start: Chain in multiples of 3 +2
Row 1: SC into the 2nd chain from the hook. SC in each chain across. There will be an even number at the end of this row.
Row 2: Chain 2, turn. Place a DC in the 1st stitch. (Skip 2 stitches, place 3 DC in next) across. 2 DC in the top of the turning chain from the last row.
Row 3: Chain 2, turn. (Place 3 DC in the space from the last row) across. Place one DC in the top of the turning chain from the last row.
Row 4: Chain 2, turn. Place a DC in the first stitch. (Place 3 DC in the space from the last row) across. Put 2 DC in the top of the turning chain from the last round.
Remaining Rows: Alternate repeating row 3 with row 4 as needed.

If it is a multiple of 3+2 you will have an odd number of stitches at the end of row 1 since you start in the 2nd chain from your hook ( in your example 12+2=14 you should have 13 stitches at the end of the first row). So if you did a row of foundation SC it should be done in a multiple of 3+1
