Rolex has given up its £50M sponsorship with F1, and the word on the street is there is a new kid on the block 👀

Could TAG Heuer be a good fit for F1 or would you like to see another brand take the spotlight?

Tag Heuer sponsored F1 throughout the 90s and early 2000s. I don’t understand everyone’s surprise now 🤷🏻‍♂️

Why keep playing the game when you've killed the final boss 11 times 🤔

Brand fatigue. Long term sponsorship loses its message over time. When you see something for too long you tend to zone it out. It’s why you see brands come in and out of favour with F1 over the decades. Remember when Vodafone was everywhere? And when martini returned? Liqui Moly is back. Honda returning. Everything had a cycle.

With TAG Heuer now being owned by LVMH, the brand undergoing a revival and being new sponsor for F1….. here is my question, why don’t the drop the word TAG? And go back the original name before Techniques d’Avant Garde….. and just call themselves Heuer? Names are important and I think if the dropped the TAG, they’d get rid of a lot of the negative “80’s” vibe…. Lean into their motor racing history and just call themselves “Heuer”…..

I own an omega speedmaster mk40 from 96. It was gifted by Michael to one of the ferrari team members. An insanely special piece for me. It is the perfect mechanical "smartwatch" with the perfect retro f1 vibes. Rolex has no history in f1, their green adverts were an absolute pain to look at around the tracks.

I don't think they'll be missed and I'd be interested to learn whether 5 years down the line Rolex is out of pocket - probably not. Tag Heuer on the other hand likely need the boost to public opinion on their class and quality. F1 makes sense to them.

Don’t even know why they bother with such huge sponsorships or most of their advertising because you can’t even buy their watches because demand is 10x supply (by design)

Rolex and F1 was always odd IMO.
Worked at Monaco a bit maybe (even though Monaco is a playground for much more expensive brands).
Tag have a great logo for F1 and works much better for many reasons.

Official timers of events (Seiko, Omega etc.) are the thing that inspires me, but nobody seems to care about that.

I think Company’s should be smarter and realize sponsoring stadiums, events & certain type of sports is ridiculous. They don’t matter shit to me on whether I buy their product or not. I’m not going to buy a watch because they sponsor Formula One. That doesn’t even come in to play for me. If it does, I feel bad for you.

I was an F1 fan before I became a watch guy. For a long time I knew Tag Heur as the brand that made the Red Bull engines.

Yes they need improved brand awareness.

TAG is good for F1 since they have history not only in timing but also the engines but man I'd love to see Omega sponsor F1

Rolex are suffering from negative publicity when customers see and want the racing inspired Daytona and are laughed at by the a.d

I’m not super familiar with F1, but I’ve always associated TAG Heuer with it. I didn’t even know Rolex had their part in it.

I think that TAG want to be one of if not the only brand that comes up when people think of F1. Being associated with a very popular sport goes a long way, with old and especially new fans.

Rolex doesn’t sponsor any formula 1 team
The Rolex clock at the race wasn’t even a Daytona. Another brand is better

They'll still do yacht racing, wimbledon... And tons of other events.
I remember Hamilton after a race getting a new Tag to wear to the podium... Can't remember if this was before the 11 year stint they've had. But Tag will always give drivers ugly watches to wear.

Like old whingy-verstappen. he could wear any watch. and puts that Pizzabox on his wrist after every race (Monaco... The ultimate ICK watch)

Tag will increase their base price. So now is a good time to buy.

I had never heard of Tag Heuer (or Heuer) before developing an interest in watches. I don't think almost anyone of a younger generation would have, either.

Don't forget that LVMH have more products than just watches, they may be able to bring more of them to our attention-- for example, champagne on the podium.

I think that seamaster looks fantastic on that nato

It’s far more complex. To make a sponsorship work is not set it and forget it (I was going to sponsor NFL, but went PGA) but rather a small chunk of what you will spend in events, etc. so Rolex probably will spend the money or focus the money on something like tennis or cricket.
