Overland Mods for $1400. Overland mods in 2021 for less than 1400 dollars. 1400 dollar ( $1400 ) modifications or gear for your 4Runner. 5 Major mods you can do to your offroad or overlanding rig for under 1400. Did you get a stimulus and are wondering what to buy? Well if you are like me and would rather waste money on your rig rather than doing something better with it... check out this list! Maybe you didn't get a stimulus check but you want to stick to less than 1500, well this list works for that as well. Offroading or overlanding doesn't have to be such an expensive hobby.

Finding budget overland gear is really important because it's a really expensive hobby. I've spent tons of time researching the best mods for my truck and while I don't always use the budget option, more often that not I've probably researched that mod to death.

4. More Armor... Rock Sliders: RSG (angled, no plate, no kickout), CBI.
Skid Plates: CBI, RCI.
5. Tires: BFG KO2 285/70/17, Falcon Wildpeak A/T 275/70/17.
Bonus: Air compressor (Smittybilt 2781), recovery gear (shackles, traction boards).

My first mod shortly after I got my 4Runner was a set of RSG angled sliders with kick outs and no top plate, haha. I love them, they look great and the kick-outs make a handy step for rear seat or roof access.

If it's like only an extra hundred bucks to get them powder-coated, I would definitely recommend that route. I got mine unpainted, spent about 50 bucks on painting supplies and almost a whole weekend getting them prepped and painted correctly. Not to mention I had to wait a while to install them, because I needed to wait for good weather to do that painting outside.

Thanks for the great suggestions. We have a 5th Gen 4runner with the Uptop Overland Bravo rack and we second your recommendation. It's a quiet, extremely durable and versatile rack. Jeep up the good work!

Those RSG rock sliders are pretty sweet. Cool that they have so many options; I've had a hard time finding decent sliders without the kickout. I think I'll order the DOM version. Great tips. Tx, man!

Also correct me if I am wrong but the stock TRD skids are 1/4" aluminum. I have heard if you can get 1/2" aluminum skids they are just as strong as steel. Obviously just more expensive but if you are super concerned about strength and so you are leaning toward steel but hate rust, maybe look for those! I have not done the math but I believe 1/2" aluminum skids are still lighter than an equivalent strength steel thickness.

I am actually getting RSG sliders as my first major mod (bought them before my T4R) angled slider w/kick out and top plate. In Hawai’i they were over $1200 thanks to the shipping costs.

Here in Honolulu I don’t think we have the same kind of rock crawling as Colorado so I’m more going for light weight parts, aluminum skids and bumpers.

Hey man! Loved this video! You think it's be possible to get a much more in depth video regarding RTT? I'd love to see a review by you on like a dozen different options ranging in cost. If not, thanks anyway and keep up the great vids!

Great video! I do have one question. With the carrot in the holster do you loose any leg room? Like do you ever find yourself bumping into it?

Got a recommendation for suspension on a 2nd gen taco as I start to build it out? Budget is around $1200-1500ish. Im in KY we have some gnarly trails.

Question. I went to the RSG website to look at the sliders with kick out and looking at the pics of them installed it seems like they interfere with getting in and out of the back seat. Is that the case? Am I going to regret putting these on my everyday vehicle with 2 teenagers riding in the back? Thanks

Enjoyed your video on these mods. Do all of the winch bumpers interfere with pre-collision warning on the 2921 4Runners? I would like to keep the warning for family members.
