The insurance plan helped so much, we got it and my wife was diagnosed of cancer when we were just about ready to go, it paid all it back but not the insurance cost! Always get it and on the world cruise it 1K per person.

I didn’t buy it until final payment because it’s a big monetary commitment so early and cancellation is still a possible option. Always get your own within 10 days of final payment. Best to avoid non-refundable fare until final payment. You can get quotes closer to cruise date.

Also read the insurance coverage. I paid for the insurance with our last payment on a pass cruise, I got sick on the cruise, and the cruise line stuck us with the whole bill I had to beg borrow or someone steal money to get a flight home from one of the destinations where they drop me off after getting sick. They refuse to pay because they said it was a pre-existing condition and if I'd paid on the beginning of the payments, they would have covered it

I buy an outside insurance that covers all my costs including hotels, airfare, and the cruise. It has medical insurance replacement for luggage, etc. I can purchase it up to the week before the cruise if I like. I'm able to claim all my costs, including the insurance itself. It begins from the time of purchase, until I return home. It has always costs less than the insurance from the cruise line and I get it through my travel agent. I purchase it at the same time I make my final payments.

This is to remind us all to by travel insurance far enough in advance before you even leave. After 21 cruises we have always known to get insurance, but when? I bought our full coverage insurance paid in full 6 weeks before our travel an cruise. After purchasing this insurance found out my wife had cancer an 6 weeks of chemo. Asked insurance what to do? Found out there is a 60 day preexisting condition . No help on $5000 trip. Called american an united airlines also Hampton inn. Miami gave us a full refund! MSC cruises let us move our cruise ahead one year with no added charges due my wife having cancer. THANK YOU for there help! Do get your insurance IN TIME!

Hi Don - good points. However, one small caveat: I've heard of insurance plans that will only cover pre-existing medical conditions if you pay in full shortly after booking. So if that's something that you anticipate possibly needing, it'd be good to verify with your TA.

This must be just cruise line insurance because other insurances have pre-existing conditions coverage that has to be bought most of the time within 14 days of booking or pre-existing conditions are not covered.

Hi Don. Is vacation protection different from travel insurance? Please enlighten me about this. Thank you.

We have annual travel insurance. It takes the stress out of the situation. It doesn't cost a fortune but if you travel a few times a year it is good value but that is in the UK.

I should have said the medical coverage with the cruise line is secondary, not the cancellation/interruption coverage.

I added travel/medical insurance from BCAA as well because the cruise insurance to get you home again if a serious illness is only 10, 000 which is not nearly enough.

Don is talking about the insurance purchased with the cruise line, right?
I always buy my insurance from a 3rd-party insurer, and I always have to pay right away.

makes sense most important BUY CRUISE INSURANCE THE 200 IS WORTH IT FOR THE THOUSANDS YOU MAY HAVE TO PAY.

If you do not pay at deposit time, it does not cover pre existing conditions
