I tore my ACL and meniscus while skiing last spring, my surgeon said that if it was only a torn ACL, the surgery could be delayed, but since I had also torn the meniscus, I had surgery within 2 weeks of the injury. It was a very long recovery process, with 6 months of physical therapy. I am just now feeling 100% recovered, 1 year later. Thank god for surgeons like you two, who can put people back together with such skill.

I've been extremely fortunate. At 6'10" having played sports most of my life and working in construction to never have had this issue.
Great info.

Been there. Done that. ACL full tear along with medial meniscus tear. Had surgery using patella tendon graft but it was never the same. It did allow me a long career in LE… but 27 years later I will eventually need a total knee replacement.

I started watching your channel after I had a knee replacement this Christmas. My knee issues started many years ago with a number for meniscus and ACL tears. It was good to see Dr. Deakon on your channel today, it brought back memories from 26 ish yeas ago. Dr. Deakon freed up my knee after I tore some meniscus and a previous ACL repair. Shortly after that he repaired the ACL and let me know that a replacement was in my future. The work he did held up well for 26 years. Glad to see Dr. Deakon is still helping folks out.

You've condensed and summarized this topic so that even a layperson like me can understand - my thanks. All these videos are helpful.

1st MRI ever was for a completely severed ACL and a grade 2+ tear of the MCL. I also broke a non weight bearing bone. Downhill skiing. RErhab was long and hard. Still have the severed ACL but was able to continue to ski for 12 more years after, with the aide of a custom derotational brace. 1st clue it was bad, is that I could not stand up, I crumpled like a wet noodle to the ground. Got my 1 and only ride in a basket by the ski patrol that day. Great video Drs as always! :)

Thanks for sharing this.
Getting seen is a challenge right now, let alone diagnostic testing.
Maybe the 4th time will be the charm to get help.

My brother assaulting me resulted in a torn ACL. A few years later - bi-malleolar fracture of ankle on that leg needing a plate. A few years later - a shattered patella - now that really took apart my knee. It was hanging by a thread. The pieces were wired up. Years later hip displaced and replacement surgery. Ha! Before the ACL, the humerus fracture requiring surgery to twist my arm back in place. Also, a right distal fracture (collarbone) and multiple rib fractures caused by violent assault. Also, right 2nd metatarsal fracture after a soccer thug stomped on my foot. I can handle the pain of a fracture. It's the aftermath rodeo nightmare in hospital that I cannot endure.

I was running thru an airport carrying a heavy bag. I heard a loud pop. It swelled up. I couldnt walk. Darn. It does better with a brace. I already hav no meniscus but did ok. The Ortho I saw 10 yrs ago said he didnt kno how I wasnt in a lot of pain. No pain till this dang airport injury. Guess I will go to the Dr

Great video; so much good information. I am going to guess that popping sound when it happens gets people's attention real quick. Looking forward to the treatment video. Folks need to realize how important how doing the therapy exactly as prescribed is for joint issues.

Very informative! I need to add that there is also the ACLU injury, which happens mostly in the United States and involves lawyers and civil rights and the Constitution.

I really need to get treated for all these puns. 🤪

I think Dr. Paul moon lites @ the comedy club on the weekends . How due some of these pro athletes get back to playing so fast after an injury than regular folks ? Is their different treatments for them ? It took me an hour on hold then over a month just to get an appointment to get my foot looked at with UF HEALTH in Jacksonville Fl glad it got better some after 4 days . Never had a ACL tear, don't want one either thank you for the video & Dr Deakon for his expertise on the ACL .

Mine wasnt a pop, it was three twangs like guitar strings.

But otherwise, just as you say. No pain post-accident, minimal swelling but a lot of instability.
