After selling my house, I put a lot of furniture, home furnishings, kitchenware and other items in storage as I traveled the world. When I returned, I no longer needed any of these items so I put an ad online "If you can carry it, you can have it" with a date/time window for pickup. A dozen trucks lined up and cleaned out my storage unit in 30 minutes. The last guy even swept it clean and threw away excess packing materials for me. They got lots of free stuff to keep or sell, and I saved money too!

If you are low income but have decent credit, people often overlook getting a no annual fee cash back credit card. If you are responsible (key here, don't get in trouble), put all the standard expense you can on that sucker and pay it off every month. Gas, groceries, fast food etc. That extra 5-10 a month can help.

I walk to the grocery store instead of drive and on a different day I walk to the pharmacy instead of drive. I use one of those handcarts to get everything home.

I converted my exercise walk into this function and I save fuel.
Surprisingly, you'd be amazed at how conscious you are of what you buy when you're on foot.
Fuel savings and less wear on the vehicle are dramatic.

I go to seed exchange libraries to get flower seeds for my garden and attend free garden shows. Great way to meet new people, get free garden supplies as well as tips.
And it's just plain fun!

This is so great! The lost and found thing is real. Where I work if someone doesn’t come back in 4-6 weeks for something we just donate it. Coats, umbrellas and water bottles are always in there😊. If someone asked we would definitely let them have a look before we box it up for donation. Times are hard and small things count. Thanks for sharing 😊

Many years ago, I wrote a positive note to a food company (that makes peanuts), complimenting them on their product & not even asking for anything. They were nice enough to send a nice coupon!

As a social worker, we recommend food pantries (where they get a free box of groceries) to our members to help cut cost of groceries...the money they can save from groceries they can put in savings

I take things from our lost property bin at work quite often, I work for a tour company where 90% of our passengers are only in town for a few days, so most things left on buses are never claimed. I scored an Under Armour down puffer jacket which I sold for $80 on eBay, and a pair of Lululemon tights which sold for $60. My most recent score was a Stanley Stainless Steel Insulated Tumbler, which are $70 on Amazon, which is now my go-to drink bottle when I'm working! (I never would have paid that much for a water bottle!) You've reminded me to check the box next time i go to work, see if any new stuff has appeared :)

My public middle school used to put out lost and found items on several 4’x8’ tables during student conferences. There were literally hundreds of items. If no one claimed the items they were given to a charity 30 miles away. That way no one would be able to tease someone about wearing their cast offs.

Check your local grocery store coupon policy. 3 out of 4 of mine accept dollar off purchases from other stores. Example is $10 of $50 purchase. That’s 20% off my best deal. So hams were just $0.77lb but with the coupon the price is $0.62lb. ( some I keeps a butts others I ask the butcher to cut into ham steaks). This is important to me because my goal is to buy meat at $1 per meal, not person for 4 people. Chicken quarters for $0.59-$0.79 become $0.47-$0.62lb. Turkey was $0.79lb or $0.63lb with coupon.

I want meat for $1 or less a meal. The carb is $0.50-.75 a meal. And vegetables are $1-$2. This keeps my lunch and dinners to $2.50-$3.75. The lower I can go, like keeping meat to $0.62-$0.75 a lb and the others lower, the more often we can have things like shrimp, fish, desserts, snacks, fruits. I do budget for fruits $1-$2 a day.

Other examples of foods would be potatoes @ $0.40lb, sweet potatoes @ $0.79lb, brown rice $.86lb and pasta $0.75-.80lb. Veggies: baby carrots $0.99, regular carrots 2lb for $1, Broccoli for $1.33lb, green beans $0.99lb, corn $0.99lb.

People don’t think $0.10 doesn’t matter, but caring about the pennies keeps my budget to $50-$60 a week for 2 adults and 2 children even in these inflationary times. Children below 12, 12 and above count as an adult.

I used to work in a hotel. I am still wearing a nice black sweater that was in the lost and found. If you stay in a hotel and have forgotten the cord to charge your phone... ask the front desk. They usually have a boxful that people have left behind and probably have one that will fit your phone.

I bought a small clarinet (Eb) so not your standard Bb every kid in band plays for 25$; family had no idea what it was. Got it restored for 300$ and sold it for $1250; part of me wanted to keep it but I never play Eb clarinet, mostly bassoon and clarinet/bass clarinet
