Don’t try moving to the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area unless you are rich.
The alligator fears are unwarranted. Lived here pretty much all my life, never met anyone who had any dangerous encounters with one. We learned to live with the occasional hurricane. What kills us is the skyrocketing wind insurance.

Insurance is Higher that is a fact. And finding insurance is FAR tougher. Getting cancelled is a Real big problem.

As someone who lived in Florida my whole life I'm growing to hate it from the constant influx of rich snow birds buying out houses raising the cost of living because now there is more of a demand for real estate.

Moved to Florida. Lasted 2 years before leaving. Too crowded. Too hot. Too many aggressive drivers. Too much hurricane damage. Couldn’t leave fast enough.

I would have included HOA's. Hard to live anywhere in Florida without being in an HOA and the state laws allow an HOA to get away with just about everything.

Post covid, the cost of living in Florida has risen really fast. In fact, the average salary has not risen all that much. Although, there are good paying jobs a good portion of jobs do not pay all that well. It’s even worse the further south you go past the I4 corridor. Real estate prices are just too expensive. At this rate you will probably need an salary of over 100k just to even qualify to purchase an average size home (3 bed 2 bath 1500sq ft).

I’m part of this statistic. Born and raised in Florida, I’m 27 and just moved from central Florida area to the Lake Norman area of North Carolina. My reasons ? High cost of living, traffic, tourist, hurricanes, and no seasons whatsoever. I got tired of sweating all year round and being stuck in endless summer. I’d take the mountains over the beaches but that’s just me.

From someone who lived through Hurricane Andrew and Ian. Dude, they are a very big deal and will impact and change your life for ever. Still fixing my house from Ian and its been over a year...

Florida is no longer a Middle Class friendly State . It has become extremely expensive while most jobs revolve around Tourism and pay very little . And so much of the State suffers from an endless amount of Construction everywhere . And don't get me started on the terrible Traffic and never ending Roadwork .

Just remember if you’re driving in Florida after the light turns red the next four cars are coming through

I’ve lived in Florida for 50 years. I can’t wait to get out of here as soon as I retire. Hot as hell, housing as expensive as hell, insurance high as hell, food high as hell, lived through some hurricanes that were terrifying and damaging as hell. The greatest thing about Florida is the wildlife, including gators, and I’ve seen my share of them. And the fishing and boating, especially on Lake Okeechobee. Oh yea, drivers are also crazy as hell. Everything is crazy as hell here. That’s why my daughter left Florida and moved to Alaska when she became an adult. I plan on getting the hell out the dodge as soon as I retire!

The heat is oppressive. I enjoy having more than one season. Sweating my arse off well into November is terrible.

Natives in the sunshine states are also tired of all the elite people making six figures coming into our state and inflating costs - making a never ending rat race to live.

As someone who lived in Florida for 15 years and moved to South Carolina this year, traffic and hurricanes are top on my list. Hurricanes are there but not like you think. I get tired of family members, that live out of the state, freaking out every time a storm is coming and calling me every 3 hours and telling me to evacuate

I moved here in April, and by August I was subconsciously over it. It took until November until I mentally broke and realized I need to get out for my own mental health. I am alone here so there is that, but Florida is a different country compared to the Midwest. I love the heat, seriously don’t mind it at all and I hate the cold. But the trash, homeless, the drivers and traffic, it’s just an awful place if you’re used to some level of “nice”. It’s just a scary place, I stay close to home because I’m uncomfortable out there. Anyway, if you’re thinking about FL heed my warning. I was wide eyed and excited, now I have better data. ✌️

My uncle got transferred to Pompano Beach in 1957. Once he retired, he came back to Michigan for a few months every year. He said the heat and humidity were unbearable down rhere.

The reason people want to live in Florida, the weather. The reason people want to leave Florida, the weather. LOL!

I live in Florida and have worked in the insurance industry for 6 years, can confirm all of these points.

Especially property insurannce. Youll get a letter from your provider saying theyre canceling your policy because theyre leaving the state or just going out of business altogether. Ive owned my home for 5 years and have had to change property carriers 3 times.
