The baby "Farkle" could be a reference to a recurring sketch on "Rowan & Martin's Laugh-in" (1968-1973) aired on NBC here in the U.S.

The Farkle family all had bright red hair, multiple large freckles and wore black thick-rimmed glasses - like many of the world's militaries issue. The entire brood were introduced each time by the father (Dick Martin.)
