“You can’t trick the odds in to forgetting about you”

Wonderfully put.

As a blackjack dealer that's been dealing for 10 years... listen to this guy. He really knows his stuff.

As Grandpa used to say: " There is no game in the Casino that doesn't favor the Casino."

nobody should ever play blackjack again if blackjack is 6-5

The casinos also block you from counting cards. It's kind of obvious when you go from small bets to larger bets, you've been counting cards. Casinos will stop you and either limit your bet size or force you to have a constant bet. And that's not even considering the casino using multiple decks or replacing a deck before it's been totally used.

Casinos legally rig or "cheat" most often by changing the rules to 6:5 Blackjack payout instead of 3:2 payout. This basically makes it so the player never has a chance. Please do not play 6:5 Blackjack!!

I’m not a gambler but every time I walk into a casino I think how people losing money built this place.

As a former professional blackjack dealer, I can attest that there is a 4% margin between the player and the house. The house wins 52% of the time, players win 48% of the time, and this is with the house using soft 17s. Where the casino makes it's money is on bulk. There's 6 players at a table vs one dealer.

I go to the casino with about 400 once every two months, I have 100 for slots 100 for blackjack and 200 for poker if I win, I win, if I lose I lose, I have fun with it, I don't go out to go drinking, I don't go out to eat, so it's a fun thing to do for me.

The only rules I find to be completely infuriating is when splitting aces, you only get dealt one card for both aces. Not being able to split aces isn't something I've ever seen, that is horrible.

Interesting perspective. I started playing 21 when I was a kid by playing with my grandfather, who managed to beat me almost every time when he acted as the dealer. Childhood memories...
While it is true that you cannot control the order of the cards, you can sometimes control your impact by how many hands you can play at a time. You can choose to sit out a hand, and you can sometimes play two hands back to back when the number order/"flow" is not in your favor in a given shoe. I say this because we get in the nasty habit of being reactive to the game instead of being a proactive player. I'm not the level of player that this guy is, but that is one thing that I have learned since I started playing 21 in Las Vegas back in the 90s. Also, don't be afraid to walk away, as tomorrow is another day.

That part about the "infinite winning streak". I had never thought of it that way...and it's very obvious...

I've been a Casino Dealer for 5+ years. It's just the odds of people playing and the mathematical edge that gives the house an edge. I'll say for every one winner there will be 20 winners. Like you can win, but note what you're winning is not the Casinos money. You're taking all the money from the losers.

I love it when players win because it's so rare.

My first thought was that Joe has a gambling problem, and the math is just working out. He's just losing overall in the long term even though he sometimes wins.

When I used to train rookie blackjack dealers in the casinos, they always asked how to take a player’s money. Here’s what I told them: deal the player a consistent, even-paced game exactly to procedure and never, never give a player a reason or opportunity to get up and leave or walk away. That’s the only way to rip off the players.

Casino doesn't have to rig blackjack. whoever deals wins. Next time ask the casino if you can deal the cards.

The best way to quit while you’re ahead is to never sit down in the first place.

I once had a dealer tell me that these card shuffling machines can be programmed to put cards in a certain order.

They kept increasing the house edge so everyone loses every time they go. Then, they imply that 'you're here to be entertained, not to win'.

We went to MGM often over the course of 1 year. We never once won. We never even got ahead for a moment. It was just constant loss with zero return.

It basically stopped being fun for us, so we simply stopped going. We haven't been back in 1 year.
