Post Notes:
- I finally got some time off, this is just a warm up for me and a preparation video for future mods, as people kept asking for reassembly videos.
- ARK-4 is still in the works. Just bare with me as its very time consuming and I wanna make sure its as good as it can get.
- Once that is done we can finally get back to continuing the hardware mods series.
- Fun Tip: This video took 4 days to make, and has over 900 cuts!

Comment here what model you would like to see next get a reassembly video guide like this one.

Wow this is a great video. Where was this 2 yrs ago when i was disassembly mine. Oh those after market ribbon cables have caused me some much misery.
Right now im doing the near impossible putting back the sharp/nec chip on board. Its i thinkbrelated to graphics but has 60 solder balls under neath. I have a 2-5% chance of success

Thank you for your hard work and dedication. You inspired me to customize your psp!

And I'm currently creating a custom PSP with a 3D-printed case and added useful features-an ambitious project.

After all the mods, I will write a PSP compatibility program with larger SD cards (starting from 128 GB). This will allow everyone to enjoy games on larger and faster storage devices, providing faster loading times and smoother gameplay.

If I succeed, I'll give you access to the beta version and show you what I did in the end!)

Been really enjoying your PSP stuff the last couple of months, very informative so thanks. Let me know if you're ever thinking of doing a video on encoding movies for the PSP. I have a custom Handbrake profile and figured out how to render excellent quality stuff with instructions for a resolution of 720x576 in the correct PSP aspect ratio of 30:17 for 21:9/16:9/4:3 content. Makes a massive difference quality wise vs 480x272 due to Chroma Subsampling. Basically end up with a correct image of 30:17 at a resolution of 1016x576 stretched on the PSP's display and a size of about 1gb per 2 hour movie.

I bricked my psp in 2014, still have it and I want to bring it back, but I can’t find a Pandora battery where would I best find it or what would be the best way to recover it would you know?

Got it up and running using a Pandora battery that I built thanks to this fine community. ❤️

3:40 I realised after stripping my fair share of screws, there's a screw type similar to philips called JIS (Japan Industry Standard) which looks like a Philips but using a philips will strip it slowly overtime, a JIS screwdriver is the one to use there and a JIS will also work on a Philips screw.

Now the PS Vita and the 3DS use JIS screws, although guides like ifixit say its philips but ive seen some people on reddit mention it's actually JIS and using those screwdrivers eliminate or reduce the chance if stripping screws. I have not verified that info myself but it might be worth exploring, and it would make sense if these devices use JIS as it's more superior and comes from Japan like the devices.

@TotalKommando ! Hoping for a little help! I reshelled a PSP 2000. It had a bad UMD drive as the laser would come on but the drive wouldnt spin and the laser would not move beside turning red for a few seconds.

Fast forward to taking it apart to reshell, I notice the little black switch that gets pressed down when the UMD drive door is closed, was hanging on by a thread. So I removed it carefully with a soldering iron and I soldered a small wire from the bottom point to the top right point where that switch used to be (so the circuit would constantly be "ON" and then the drive should just trigger when a UMD disc is inserted from the other switch thats by the inside of the UMD drive on the right.) Put everything back together and the PSP boots up just fine but when the second switch inside by the UMD drive is pressed down, the system just turns off. (Is it supposed to be the bottom point bridged to the top LEFT point instead??)

Any idea why this is happening? I've tried on a newly charged battery as well as just being plugged into the official Sony psp charger and the same thing happens each time. Its a new drive as well (I ordered 2 from a reputable seller on eBay) and tried again but the same issue happens. No laser comes on but the drive bobs and then the whole unit turns off. I even put the old/original broken UMD drive in and it also just turns off the second that switch inside by the drive on the right side is pressed down. The UMD drive doesnt even spin or anything, just turns off the PSP.

I assume it must be shorting out the system and tripping up somewhere but I'm unsure of what is going on. I searched online but have not found anyone to have the same problem, just people saying the UMD drive is bad which I know is not the case and that the UMD drive uses a lot of power so I imagine with the official charger plugged in, it should be adequate enough power to run and not shut down.

I had a PSP3000 that had a similar issue where the black switch that gets triggered when the UMD door is closed broke, but I bridged that one the same way and it works just fine (it was a long time ago but maybe the solder points I did this time are incorrect.) Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

An excellently documented teardown and reassembly of my favorite handheld!

Awesome work!

Also: Give it a quick blow (@ 37:55)

That's bad advice. You should never put your electronics into your mouth.

So I found this channel about 2weeks ago and binged these vids. I have 2 psp (2000/3000), found them after watching the battery video. Psp 3k has screen not working for some reason but powers on with power cable. Psp 2k does not power on at all, so I just got my selfe ostent battery off of aliexpress. It arrived today and it seems that psp 2k works just fine prob had fuse blow on charging. So ill be prdering some battery charging station and more batteries + custon shells/new lcd screen for my psp3k.
Just wanted to share :) and if anyone got any mods for these be sure to share! Soldering is fine, I have modded many consoles

When i press select, it freezes up and cant do anything, i have to put it on sleep mode and open it up agaon then the VSH menu pops up. Also when in game when exiting a game via home button, The option to exit game opens up but cant make the section to quit the game. What do i do to fix it. Many thanks!
