The whole time I was putting the ribbon cable in backwards, make sure the colored lines are not facing you the cable should be all twisted up when you put it in.

OMFG thank you so much for this!!! I let my partner's little brother (13) try and clean it and by the time he was done he couldn't get it to close on the front end, hindering the disc slot. It was a gift from my late dad from many years ago (we never really had a lot of spending money so it was a big surprise to say the least) and it made me really sad to think that because of my actions (letting a kid go near it) that I had ruined it. Months had gone by until I decided before putting it in a repair shop with my phone that I would give it one last go. I tried for a good hour and a half until I came across this video when BOOM, it finally clicked back in place. So once again, I say thank you! I really had no idea that it could even come apart like that (no one ever showed it in their videos). I hope you have a Happy Holiday!!
