The Aromanian language (armãneashti, armãneashte, armãneashci, armãneashce or rrãmãneshti), also known as Macedo-Romanian or Vlach, is an Eastern Romance language, similar to Megleno-Romanian, Istro-Romanian and Romanian,[3] spoken in Southeastern Europe. Its speakers are called Aromanians or Vlachs (a broader term and an exonym in widespread use to define Romance communities in the Balkans). Some scholars, mostly Romanian ones, consider Aromanian a dialect of Romanian.

Aromanian shares many features with modern Romanian, including similar morphology and syntax, as well as a large common vocabulary inherited from Latin. An important source of dissimilarity between Romanian and Aromanian is the adstratum languages (external influences); whereas Romanian has been influenced to a greater extent by the Slavic languages, Aromanian has been more influenced by Greek, with which it has been in close contact throughout its history.

I am Aromanian born in the U.S. My parents are from from Kortiza and Mom from Cerven.... the dialect I was brought up with was from the Muzachia section of Albania. The Farsharoti speak a little differently with words I sometimes do not understand.

As a Romanian, I find Aromanian pretty interesting.It looks like Old Romanian mixed with a lot of Greek and Turkish.

I am Greek and I don't speak Aromanian at all but I recognized many Greek words there, and they are actually pronounced the way Greek sounds in northern Greece. Beautiful language and I am ashamed my government doesn't protect it.

Wow this is really neat, I have been a Romanian speaker since birth for 46 years, this is the very first time that I found out about Aromanian, I hear of it before, but I thought that was just Moldovan, essentially Romanian with a Russian accent.

Very glad you made this video, I was wishing for it. I have also suggestions that you can make about Romanian language:

A YouTube short of the two Proto-Romanian words (Balkan Latin) mentioned In Theophylactus Simocatta Histories, (c. 630), which the author mentions the words τóρνα, τóρνα (torna, torna) from Latin tornō meaning to turn which can still be seen in Aromanian tornu. Theophanes Confessor, in his Chronographia (c. 810–814 A.D) also mentions the same words but this time adding 'Fratre' from Latin Frāter meaning brother which still can be seen in Romanian Frate. Theophylactus Simocatta Histories, (c. 630) mentions where the torna, torna (Fratre) is said and it is in the mountains of Haemus modern day Balkan Mountains in Bulgaria which had a large Vlach population i.e Proto-Romanians (Balkan Latin) in Early Medieval period. The meaning of Torna, Torna Fratre is Turn, Turn Brother.

You could also make a video in the differences between Romanian and Dalmatian. And the differences between Romanian and Latin.

I can spot many words in Aromanian ehich are common in Albanian dialects, loans and native Albanian words, like llahtar, huzmet, frik, gajle etc.

As native Romanian with no exposure to Aromanian, I am finding it incredibly difficult to understand when spoken. In writing it is much better. Probably with better exposure I could get used to it, but when hearing it for the first time, you start from almost zero.

Aromanian from Moscopole (cultural centre of the Balkans ~1700s): (Phonetic) Unã (fem), dao, trej, patru, cinci, ŝase, ŝapte, optu, nao, dzace
Nouns that end with -e (ŝase, ŝapte, dzace) are pronounced with -i (ŝasi, ŝapti, dzaci) in the Eastern dialects of Macedonia (closer to Romania)
