Did You Know In HARRY POTTER…

Goblins considered the maker to be the rightful owner of an item! When the purchaser of a goblin-made item dies, the item had to be returned to its maker. It was believed by goblins that a wizard who purchased a goblin artefact was simply renting it, not purchasing it. In their eyes, passing an item from one wizard or witch to another without repaying the maker was little more than theft.

This channel is inspired by Harry Potter Theory. I grew up loving Harry Potter and always wanted to come up with my own theories and ideas about the lore and world-building of the series. I hope you enjoy this theory video, and subscribe if you want to see more!

But it's good that you remember that goblins don't hold this same stigma to themselves as if one of them die there things are kept passed on or destroyed but not returned goblins only hold this ideal to themselves as a way to justify crimes against wizards which is or otherwise and to resell already sold items they are basically in a way trying to trap wizards and witches in morality because you can't insult them for their "ways" and you can't take action against them for it but they can take action against you for it

Yes I did know that, this is almost word for word what Griphook tells Harry in Deathly Hallows!

I wonder if thats why Dumbledore passed on the sword to Harry, I guess the sword would have gone back if not owned by someone living from the house

You can actually write a proper contract with goblin, stating if you're buying the thing forever or renting it for life.

Its funny that i can see this being a problem initially. Not one that lasts centuries. Surely knowing this about each other we can draft reasonable contracts

So, when the maker dies, the item no longer has an owner?

This custom wouldn't work in any culture.

Imagine if that happened with Wandmakers? Crafting a magical conduit only to have it returned to you after the original purchaser passed away.

This is ripped straight from Tolkien's dwarf's concept of ownership btw

If a goblin taught a wizard how to do there craft and the wizard made a master peice would it be his or the teacher who taught them everything they know

The problem with Goblins ideology of ownership is they don’t know anything about the Sword.
The Sword chooses who is worthy of wielding it.
The Sword is loyal to Gryffindor only.
I believe that was the intention of the Sword maker to make a Sword that is only loyal to Gryffindor.

This is pretty stupid in my opinion. I kind of get the logic, but you’re selling the thing, renting is something entirely different and both wizards and goblins are competent enough to figure out that there’s a disconnect there. Obviously if something is stolen that changes things but if you’re handing someone something and they’re handing you money, and it’s a one-time transaction, that thing is not yours anymore. I always thought this concept made the Goblins seem uncharacteristically naive and I don’t like that.
