The first thing Snape asks Harry is “Potter! What would I get if I added powdered root of asphodel to an infusion of wormwood?” According to Victorian Flower Language, asphodel is a type of lily meaning ‘My regrets follow you to the grave’ and wormwood means ‘absence’ and also typically symbolized bitter sorrow. If you combined that, it meant ‘I bitterly regret Lily’s death’.

Bonus facts:

2. Voldemort is 71 by the time he dies in May 1997. (Boring Maths: Harry is 12 in 1992 meaning he is 17 in 1997 when Voldemort dies. 50 years before 1992, in 1942, Voldemort opens the chamber of Secrets when he's 16. 1942-16 is 1926: when Voldemort was born. 1997-26 is 71: the age of Voldemort when he dies.

3. Harry Potter is born on the 31st July 1980. Almost 17 years later, the Harry Potter books series finishes in 1997. Nineteen years later (where the end of The Deathly Hallows and the start of The Cursed Child are set), Harry is (17+19) 36. By the end of The Cursed Child (4 years later), Harry is 40, and I you were paying attention, the year he is 40 is 2020: somehow in the future.
