When I was a kid we used to make Gatorade popsicles, and I wrote a letter to Gatorade asking why they didn't make them themselves. They actually responded back with some technical charts and real science that explained to me (6 years old) that the amount of sugar it would require to keep the Gatorade popsicles still tasting like Gatorade would make the Gatorade popsicles difficult to freeze properly and also wouldn't be in like with their 'healthy company values". I loved getting that letter, but in retrospect it's hilarious that they felt their Gatorade was even remotely healthy. Pretty sure Gatorade has almost as much sugar as soda.

Sugar have a very low freezing point, so it takes much longer for sugary drinks to freeze.

Put a bottle in the freezer and check it every so often when it starts to form a frost on outside take it out and gently drop on table bottom side down it will create a cascade freezing effect it’s pretty dope and delicious

So the ice will always be watery. It is called freeze concentrating. The water freezes first. I use it for make sap instead of boiling.

at home sometimes we made ice cubes made out of leftover coca-cola that lost all its gas AND we would use those cubes with freshly opened coca-cola, sometimes we crushed the ice cubes to make slushies (raspados in spanish).

Nice! Slow freezing soda still result in some lousy popsicles. Well, unless the solution is stabilized somehow, I've got some great results after mixing in a pinch of xanthan gum and then freezing.

The science is pretty simple. This is fractional freezing, also known as freeze distillation. Artificial sweeteners have a much higher melting/freezing point than water, so the water crystalizes out first. It is the same way Applejack liquor was originally made from hard cider. The melting point of fructose is much closer to water, so far more of it freezes with the water.

Take frozen lime Gatorade and take a ice cold mtn dew and slush up the lime Gatorade and mix in the mtn dew its really good. Used to make that while deployed overseas.

It's not a problem of the drink used it's a problem that water with sugar when frozen the sugar separates, that's why slushees are like barely frozen even though there like -10 degrees
