So fun fact, making giant ice sculptures, all you have to do is have the ice on a vibrating platform with the top exposed, as the ice freezes, it releases bubbles up as it freezes. It's why large bodies of water can have beautiful clear ice.

This is how we froze optically clear 650 gallon ice blocks for the IceTop air shower array part of the IceCube Neutrino Observatory. But we took it one step further. At the bottom of the tanks we had (well, have, they are frozen in place) corculation pumps to both mi's the water and push the water through a degasser. That way as the dissolved gasses got more concentrated as the ice was forming from the top down, we could pull the gasses out to avoid the bubbles at the bottom.

I've seen this before, but you always make it simple and easy to follow. Love all you do, keep on keeping on, and enjoy your clear ice :)

I remember a mythbusters episode about this where vibration was a major factor in industrial clear ice making

I’ve seen people use coolers but couldn’t ever fit one in my freezer, never thought of this so thanks! It’s so simple!

Clear ice is also really useful for drinks that aren't cold when you pour such as fresh tea. In a large cup, the tea at the, bottom will not be chilled by your ice if it's floating to the top. However, if you use clear ice, there are no bubbles to make it float. Therefore, it will chill the bottom, where your straw goes.

I initially came up with this justification when I was working a bar and was told there was no practical use for clear ice, and that it was just so the drinks look fancy. I sat and thought about it for a few days, and when I got a tea at my local gas station, I realized that the ice wasn't chilling the bottom.

Just a heads up, a lot of those tumblers say not to put them in the freezer. Might mess with the vacuum seal

If you try to buy a clear ice mold for in your freezer they are all directional freezing molds, they normally have a hole in the bottom, this is a well-understood concept in the exotic drink industry

Boiling helps, cause it freezes faster

Fun fact: this is a DIY version of how pure silicon blocks for making chips are made.

I own a pressure pot for casting resin and I would imagine that would work because it pulls all bubbles out of liquid resin, so if you freeze the water while under pressure, it may make clear ice.
