The water is supercooled, but not yet solidified. “Shocking” the bottle encounters the water molecules to move together and crystallize.

Per BBC Science:
“The process is called nucleation, because it encourages the molecules in the liquid to form a crystal-like nucleus onto which others can then latch. The kick-start can be given by a piece of dust, a rough spot on the surface of a container, or the shock wave generated when you hit a bottle just out of the freezer.”

The water needs to already be free of particles, which is why purified water does it so easily.

It's called Supercooled Water (you can use a method called water timer you will put sugar in water and if you see the sugar water froze then it's time)

Guys it only works with purified water and you have to put it in the fridge for 2 hours THEN put it in the freezer for 3 hours i swear i tried it like this and it didnt work and then i learned the correct way

I went to get my Gatorade out of the freezer so it can get cold faster and when I went to take it out and drink it, it literally turned into a slushy when I placed it on the table. When I saw it freezing, my brain was like “OMG THIS IS A ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY! BANG IT ON THE TABLE!!”
After that I ate it with a spoon :) tasty Gatorade slushy:)
