What a guy.
Warm hearted, approachable, no edge.
And man, what a legacy.
Rest easy Gerry.

As a 20 year old disc jockey in New Haven, Connecticut I was enlisted at the last minute to MC the British R & R revival at Yale Bowl, 1973. I was terrified at meeting and introducing so many childhood idols, and Gerry was the first celebrity I had ever met. He could not have been nicer and more patient with me. An absolute sweetheart of a man.

What a wonderful legacy, and a genuine nice man too. The Sixties had great songs.

From across that big pond, i had a very soft spot in my heart for this man and his songs. Youll never walk alone was my favorite song from Carousel and loved his rendition, but my favorite of his was Ferry Scross the Mersey. I choke up whenever i hear it and as I stood on its bank when i finally visited Liverpool a couple of years ago, tears rolled down my cheeks and i sang the song. Loved his smile and his voice. To Getry, firever in my heart.
