Wow. This video is 100% spot on. I was pulled over for DUI in 2010. I was polite. I kept my mouth shut. I refused a field sobriety test. I DID allow them to search the car but they didn’t find squat because I don’t have anything to worry about. I had to take a blood test at the station which came back .057 and Granted I paid my lawyer $3k but my case was dismissed. My best advice is don’t drink and drive even one drop.

First thing to do is throw all of your beer cans out the window before pulling over.

0:18 Stop at a safe location
1:12 Stay in your car (do Not leave vehicle)
1:41 Be polite
2:14 Show license and registration
3:12 Don't Talk
4:53 Do NOT take any *Onsite* sobriety tests (especially the Breathlyzer test)
7:17 Do NOT consent to a Search

I know he said 4 things you should never do, but I believe that "Do not take onsite sobriety tests" and "don't take breathlyzer test" were unintentionally split into two, but it's actually one.

I like to put both hands on the steering wheel, turn on an interior light(if it's dark) and have my license card and registration on the dashboard above the steering wheel. that way when the officer walks up he's not afraid that I have a concealed weapon, can see my hands and I don't have to reach for my wallet. I like to manage the cop's stress that I'm not a "bad guy." Also shows that I'm considerate and not drunk :)

A police officer told me over 20 years ago “if you do the test, you have already failed the test”

For those of you who are wondering if you automatically lose your license for refusing the roadside breathalyzer test (Virginia's implied consent law): you can refuse the roadside breathalyzer test like the attorney says in the video BEFORE you are arrested. It is only AFTER you are arrested that you are required to submit to a breathalyzer or blood test or face suspension of your license.

I am in New Jersey. I just want to thank you for your very good advice. I am retired and I watch many "cop videos" and you are so right. In EVERY video when there is an odor of alcohol, the driver goes to jail not matter if they take any sobriety test or not. EVERY video if they don't get permission to search, they get K-9 ( doggy ) to sniff. They always signal positive, so the cops search. By the way, I bought the Manhattan Bridge a few years ago. The deed is drawn on a very attractive dinner napkin. All the best to you more thing. At 70 years young I have bad feet and I am at the foot doc every 3-4 weeks. I could NEVER pass those tests if I was absolutely sober. I can't stand on one foot without falling on my head.

I like and respect this guy, he’s giving advice usually only given after paying for it. Advice most American citizens aren’t even aware of, their own rights!

Scott went all out on this one and got drunk before he got in his car and filmed this one for us. Thanks Scott! You're doing God's work out here.

After pulling over, before the officer approaches do the following:

-Turn off car and turn on the dome light (if at night.)
-Put your keys, license, and insurance on the dash.
-Place your hands visibly on the wheel.

This will silently tell the officer you are aware of their safety concerns and what they are about to ask you for. I had it explained to me as a “secret handshake”

So I’m a cop on year 31. I’m about getting ready to retire. I must say, even though I despise defense attorneys, I will say this one seems to be very professional and just doing his job. I will also say that everything he said about a DUI investigation and traffic stop is 100% correct. My hats off….

Thank you sir. Excellent stuff. I had not thought of the finding a safe spot, establishing you were not intoxicated! Very good.

I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to make this video. It was clear, concise and informative. I quit drinking multiple alcoholic drinks and driving years ago. I have a limit of a single alcoholic beverage with a dinner and never want to get convicted of a DUI for that.
