My family and I hosted a child from Nicaragua thru a charity program 4 years ago. We have kept in touch as much as possible, sending her money and helping her family. She is 18 now, and we were approved to bring her to live with us via the Parole Program 3 months ago. We adore her, and were ecstatic. However, she seems to have "used" us to gain entry to the US, has relatives in the US that we didn't know about, and has left us to go live with them. We are heartbroken. More troubling though, is the fact that she has told her family that she was here against her will, denied food, denied the phone, and all kinds of horrible things that never happened. She was safe and adored every day she spent in our home. We feel she is laying groundwork for something sinister, honestly. We have contacted the police and USCIS. What are our responsibilities with regard to her? What if she breaks the law? What if she doesn't return to Nica at the end of the 2 years? We're beside ourselves at what has taken place.
