The most scary dog breeds to me, are the ones that are not trained properly. That scares the crap out of me!

I find the intelligence of XL bully owners far more terrifying than their dogs

I once found this absolutely 💯 % gorgeous Doberman at the rescue center and adopted him. He loved my young children and anyone who came to visit. One morning, I was in the shower my backdoor was open but the glass storm door was closed but not locked. This door was also the main entry to my farm house. I heard someone knocking and yelled out "I'll be right there!" and as I shoved myself into a robe, I saw my Dobie looking out the door, then the door opened! I was flabbergasted when this delivery man reached, patted my dog on the head, and put the package on the floor, patted the dog again and closed the door. Some watchdog, right? But if I was walking him in town, people LITERALLY, would cross to the other side of the street! I admit he was a big "scary" breed of dog, but in reality he was very chill. We owned a small ranch back then consisting of about 90 acres of land. He never bothered my livestock, ever. But he was a demon around coyotes and other dogs. He was easy to train and never left our property which was totally fenced for livestock. He was a great dog.

In the U.S.... any pitbull variant. I have one, and despite me having experience training and living with Malinois and Labradors, I see that pitbulls still have a sort of trance they go into and go berserk.
And most owners get them because they wanna be tough and train the to be reckless and aggressive

Umm.. you missed out the Chihuahua which should be number 1 on the list. Those things are more terrifying than much larger breeds.

I agree, there is a Russian man in our small town that owns a Caucasian Shepherd and that dog is a force to be reckoned with. It is 230 pounds and is NOT friendly. He has it well trained so he can walk it very well, but you cannot pet the dog or stand near it, I asked to pet him once and the man had to go through a bunch of desensitization and showing the dog I was okay before I could let him sniff my hand. I have seen many dogs but you can feel the terrifying aura from these ones. They look at you and you know it wants to kill you but is reserved and stoic enough to hold back. Powerful, dominant breed that should not be given to just anyone. He lives on an acreage and it kills wolves all the time, once even decimated a large male cougar without getting injured and a pack of coyotes.

As an owner of an xl bully, my dog (named narla) is a sweet large dog who loves licking people and cuddling people. She’s not scary at all and I think that people make stereotypes about them which like you said makes them look terrified

Hello from Azerbaijan. My maternal uncle's father-in-law used to keep sheep on his farm in the mountains and he had a beautiful Caucasian shepherd dog. His name was Tarzan. When we were children we used to hang out there and once a man drove his motorcycle with a sidecar into the farm, probably to meet the owner. He drove it very close to the sheep, seconds later the whole thing was turned upside down, the man lying on the ground, Tarzan on his chest for like 15 minutes without any movement until we run for help and the owner pulled him away. Nobody saw that jump.

To be honest I always found Dogo Argentino incredibly cute. But I had really good experiences with them.

Dobermans are the most scary imo. They look big and intimidating, and need a strong owner to train them properly

We had a Dogo Argentino female who was a sweetheart to the family and vet. But she absolutely scared the Bejeezus out of anyone else.

I LOVE the Dogo Argetino. They're BEAUTIFUL! But! I wouldn't have one because I know that I wouldn't be able to be the best owner for such a powerful protective baby.

Personally, I've always been more scared of GSD and such, due to their behavioral inclinations.
More than other breeds, in the hands of an owner that's not 100% competent and confident, and with a less than optimal training, they're very easy to get nervous and "take charge", so to speak.
