The terrible thing they did was tell me their name and now I have to remember

“Sorry I’m bad with names, just one more time so it sticks”

No weird mind hack, shows honesty and interest

I learned to have no shame about it. I just ask them their name again, and I tell them mine again in case they forgot too. We are humans. Don't be so serious.

NOTE: I am autistic and can remember your face, your birthday, and your favorite things, but I have trouble with names. It doesn't mean I don't think you're important. Trust me, I do.

“Pardon my memory, what is your name again?” Took me YEARS to get to that but when I use it I get smiles and a name again 🎉

Simply repeat their name right away "Nice to meet you, [name]".
Has worked for decades.

A friend once corrected me when I mentioned that I struggle with remembering names. He advised me to never say that because it reinforces the belief. Since that moment, I've made it a point to remember everyone's name.

Get free seminar on YouTube by Jim quick - he makes you to remember everything, not just names. I thought I had chicken memory, but after just hour watching his work, I remembered every name of every customer in my new job after 1 month… and since then - 3 years later my memory is amaaazing for anything I wish to memorize. For memory of name - use their name 3 times in first interaction… oh, Mark? What a pleasure meeting you Mark… and what do you do/where do you live(whatever relevant question can be apply) Mark… such a pleasure mark, so happy for our interaction, mark.

I promise you will remember everyone’s name with this practice.
I used to even sit and eat with same people over weeks and couldn’t remember even their faces. Now I know everyone 💕

Repeating their name in my head a few times usually does the trick for me

The trick might help when meeting one person. The trouble is when you are introduced to four at the same time. I barely listen because it's hopeless.

"Dan?" (💭Dan killed a man and put the body in his van.) "Nice to meet you, Dan!"

Easy solution. I meet new people all the time at the gym. Since last year, I started writing down their name with a short description of what they look like and interesting fact they either told me or I noticed in my training log notes of notepad in my phone. If I run into them again, I simply look for the date around the time we met and I can easily find it. I usually ask them a follow up to the interesting fact and the conversation flows easy bc they’re surprised that I remembered a small detail about them. This has been a big difference maker in establishing relationships no matter how big or small. I don’t forget names anymore!

Not only did I forget their name, I won’t even remember that I forgot their name for another 48 hours

I'm great at remembering names, just terrible at remembering who they belong to

When someone tells you their name, don’t think it in your head, say it out loud. You’re making an imprint on your memory. Then tried to use their name in a sentence. Then try to think of someone else with the same name.

I found that repeating their name in my head over and over again after they say it really helps me remember.

When I meet people, I preemptively tell them I’m going to forget their name and that I’ll probably ask again

I have a medical condition that affects my memory. I am terrible with names and had suggestions like "building a memory blah'. But if I had the energy for those mental gymnastics I'd never forget names. My solution is to say directly to a new person I meet, "Hi, I'm very bad with names but I want to remember yours so I'm going to keep asking when I forget until my brain gets its act together. It's me, not you, so please don't be offended." The most common response I get is, "Me too, I'm so terrible with names." The most interesting thing I have found over about 5 years of doing this is that when the pressure of remembering is removed I seem to have much less difficulty remembering names. This idea came about because I refuse to do the games people do when forgetting names, eg, getting someone else to say it first. I decided honesty was a better plan and I've yet to find a person who is offended after being told you genuinely want to remember their name.

Honestly if you just use the name immediately in conversation it sticks way better. “Charlie? Nice to meet you Charlie.”

I think it was in 'How to win friends and influence people, ' where the author said the best way to get good at remembering names is to tell yourself you are good at remembering names instead of bad at it. I've used it for awhile, and it works pretty well.
