I worked in a bakery for a short time and our case bagels were just frozen shelf bagels. They came in plastic beagle sleeves and we’d actually repackage them at the end of the night so it was double plastic. Not to burst the bubble but most grocery stores use a TON of excess plastic and waste.

My store has those, but the price for five bagels is six dollars and a regular plastic pack of six bagels costs two bucks 😅

Must be nice. I have yet to see anywhere in my part of the Midwest that offers the amount of zero waste stores or even bulk options like you’re so lucky to have.

Those on Washington Idaho Nevada California and Oregon are so lucky to have such a great grocery store!

Buying fresh bagels from a local bakery can be a good alternative to reduce plastic waste and enjoy a tasty treat. Support local businesses and the environment at the same time!

My only thought cotton is not air tight so if you can buy or make fresh daily great if you can't use a reusable plastic bag or box.

By the way, if anybody’s wondering what the store was from the bakery, it is called Win CO it’s a really nice eco-friendly store. They have book sections, peanut and almond butter, grinders, fresh, honey, and organics. Especially as a college kid trying to be a vegan. It was really easy to use their store and shop there, bonus it’s open 24 hours.

Love going to places that have bread slicers ! And saving some bread in the freezer so it doesn’t spoil fast. And the bagels are a good tip especially if you maybe live alone or don’t eat them a ton you just get what you need !

Pro tip!! Save the bagel bags as well and use it for homemade bread, muffins, etc. great for if you need say gluten free and can’t get them bulk

I've cut waste by just baking at home. Plus, it's like giving a middle finger to corporate grocery for their "add on services"

Hungary at Auchan Hypermarket you have either pay 50 forint for a biodegradable bag or buy a 200 forint textile bag. For fruits it's a textile bag also but it's transparent.

I miss winco. I wouldn't call it a zero waste grocery store. However their bulk section is unlike any other

You know bakeries exist outside of grocery stores right...where you can actually get fresh bagels without plastic.
