Smith wasn't persecuted for his religious beliefs, he was charged for crimes because he was a con man.

If I’m not mistaken, the hat you drew on Smith is a Chinese military hat from about the 40s. As a Chinese Christian, we do not claim him.

‭Galatians 1:8 "But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be accursed."

Isaiah 54:10
‘For the mountains may depart
and the hills be removed,
but my steadfast love shall not depart from you,
and my covenant of peace shall not be removed, ’
says the LORD, who has compassion on you.

And the most important flaw of mormonism that everyone forgets:
They claim that God did not create the universe, that the universe is uncreated, and that God was created by an infinite regress of gods who created gods who created gods.

Another good reason, the book of Mormon has multiple quotes from the King James translation of the Bible. It's not inherently a problem that the book of Mormon would reference other ancient biblical works, but the issue lies in the translation. English had changed a fair amount in the 200+ years since the King James translation in 1611. However the quotes in the book of Mormon are identical to the king James. This makes no sense and shouldn't be possible, it is a clear indication of copying, not off the ancient Hebrew, which would be fine, but off the English Bible available to Joseph Smith at the time. This is similar to issues in the Quran which make various anachronistic errors most likely due to a mistake on Mohammads part confusing timelines of various biblical narratives he learned about (i.e. referencing Samaritans in Exodus prior to Israel even existing as a nation).

Exactly. We have way too many reasons to doubt the legitimacy of Joseph Mormon Smith's claims, whereas we have more reason than not to trust the Apostles.

As an atheist who was raised catholic, i obviously have some reservations towards the catholic church and christianity as a whole, but comparing it to mormonism is unthinkable.

They may not actively teach this, but it was/is official doctrine that the heavenly father of Jesus was himself a created being, who once lived in a similar world to ours, followed the correct religion, and gets to be god of a world forever now, and that followers of mormonism will get to be god of their own world.
They don't believe there exists "the most high" as every god has another god that created him extending eternally into the past. They don't believe Jesus when he said "God created all things, both seen and unseen." And they have the original lie from the serpent "you will be like God"

My family, specifically my brother in law and his family, is heavily involved in the LDS church. Please pray for them.

I fully believe that he really did encounter an angel of light. But this is why Paul warned us not to belive a different gospel, even if an angel of light preaches it.

If you want to have a fun rabbit hole, study the Second Endowment ceremony in the LDS church.

I grew up in the lds church and even as a kid it never felt right. Could never believe what they taught on the book of Mormon. Never really understood the temple stuff. I've been in them and it's not crazy cult stuff like people think. It's more like people praying and it's dead silent. I did and still do believe in christ, but the stuff they add on top of the normal Bible teachings never felt right. I finally left when I moved out of my parents and never wanted to go on a mission. Ever since childhood I always felt deeply compelled to reject the church and always felt out of place.

the nature of the persecution is a bit different too no? I dont think Joseph smith expected to die or be tortured while preaching his beliefs it just kinda happened unexpectedly?

I grew up in Utah and I am a decendant of Mormon Pioneers, but no longer Mormon myself. You should stay clear of the Mormon religion if you can. It is a very toxic way of life for a lot of people. While I still have friends who are in the religion and are wonderful people, their whole personality is being LDS and that is literally all they talk about. The Jahovah Witiness are very similar and thier life revolves around their religion and it is their complete personality. Stay clear of bothe these cults at all costs if you can.

I love Mormons but the religion promotes an idea of God that is a totally different category of thing than the Biblical God and it overall sounds like what a religion would teach if a man made it up that was a 19th Century American from the Burned Over District who had uneducated understanding of Christian doctrine. I hope more Mormons will follow my aunt in her realization after 40 years in the LDS faith where she said, “I realized everything I loved about the Mormon church was just Jesus and everything I didn’t like was the LDS faith.”

the book of mormon is no less than a fanfic of the bible. it is a literal fanfic of the bible. there were so many anachronisms in the book

Plus Smith taught tritheism and not monotheism with the Trinity. He believed that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit were three distinct entities.
