I belive the reason the console didnt see the SSD is because you didnt install all the tiny decoupling capacitors for the data lines. There are 4 PCIe lanes going to the SSD, but you installed the caps only for 3 of them. There are 2 more empty pads up above the slot for the 4th line.

I'm looking forward to making a second part of the video where we can finally make it work. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please feel free to share them in the comments. Your input is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for finally making this video. It turns out that extra storage slot is a leftover from the Xbox One X developer kit console.
It was never intended to work on consumer models, and only Microsoft would be able to assist in making that slot work on a consumer console, as only Microsoft has access to the console BIOS & bootloader, and developer OS which are required to make the Xbox One X M.2 slot operational. (or at least that's what I've been told by MS insiders)

Still, I have always felt disappointed that Microsoft had this capability in their consoles to include NVMe storage back in 2017 and decided not to make the faster storage type available for their consumers. It is what it is, but thank you for going through all this trouble. I've been wondering for a couple years now if anybody could make that slot work!! lol

This is wild. I work in an electronics repair shop, and I was talking with another of the techs about this after I noticed there appeared to be pads for an NVMe slot on the board. I always wondered if I stumbled across some schematics on the web, would I be able to add a slot to it.

The 2 sets of cap pads to the right of the slot are data lines, and they're likely required. There's also some logic and resistors missing from around the same area that you installed the mosfet

Thanks for you all thinking together to make this work. I'm also check-in the schematic looking for something you (or we) mis. Going to compare the X and XDK I will let you know if I find something.

It's possible there are missing midpoints for the data connection off the slot. You could potentially compare the general area of the board around the slot to the dev kit on both sides. Perhaps even be able to check continuity on the data lines from the slot to other areas on the board. The former would give you the best shot, especially if you could get your hands on a dev kit. It's awesome you put this to the test though!

I did a quick google search and it looks like there are some leaked xbox one x schematics. They look pretty accurate and show the componant values. Maybe try and look those up as a reference. I was also able to find a boardview file but i havnt had a chance to verify and see if it is legit yet.

This video is astonishing. I have 2 xbox one x at home if you manage to get it work you make my year :) 🎉

Was wondering if you cloned the primary sata drive to the NVME if it would make a difference.

Try getting dev mode activated the dev consol has the ssd slot mabe the consol will see it only in dev since it was never ment for users to have an ssd slot

Xbox scene guys mentioned you missed a few resistors or capacitors. Would you mind getting updated info from their discord and making a second attempt?

So thats how you use the wick.. all my life i just figured it out and thought i was good, now realize im good at soldering, but have a lot of catching up to do on the basics.

I’m working on this too, I’ve ordered all the necessary components and have a 970 evo on the way. I’ll let you guys know. I’m going off of the schematics, and hope to figure out how it goes. There’s dozens of caps that actually need to be replaced, alongside some mosfets and the debug LED. ALSO, error E109 is weird. I’ve never seen this error before, and MS has nothing on their website.

hi, i send you the link with schematics of xbox one x and the other xbox one and serie console, did you see it?

It be the software, I remember running across something similar to this and turns out I had to have put a driver in the usb so that the computer can load that specific driver and read then write 😶‍🌫️

Did you solve this? I think you need to populate the components under the board some of the pins go straight through the board to the part where there is space for 4 transistors. there is one clock pair and there are 4 pcie lanes and each one has an RX and a TX pair, above the connector is space for 2 caps and they are for pcie0_tx.

Maybe you need the sata drive as primary storage and can just install games on nvme? have you tried with both ssd in it?
i found out that the nvme drive is populated on the dev kits for faster storage.
