I’m a capitalist. But if you work 120 hours a week, you’re literally living just to work for someone. Like as soon as you go home you’re in bed just to get enough sleep to keep you going, then as soon as you wake up you’re away again.

I recently went through recruiting for S&T and secured an offer with a bulge bracket bank. Coming from a non-target school, I would say the biggest factor for my success was getting into a wall street developmental program in my school early on. Getting involved on campus, posting strong grades and extracurriculars, knowing your markets, and knowing your story are crucial! Great video, more freshman finance majors should be shown this on day 1 of college.

Up to 120 hours a week when there’s 168 hours total?! That sounds scary

Thanks for sharing awesome tips! I'm financially free and currently growing a solid retirement plan. It takes a positive and consistency to learn new things, unlearn the old habits Ms important to get a mentor/coach to lead you all the way. It's great to start young too!

This is an incredible video and provides a lot of insights especially for the younger crowd. Jobs nowadays can be very competitive and with this knowledge, hopefully this can help direct a lot of people. A tip I would advise people is to not rely on the plan solely they have laid out for themselves because remember life throws curve balls at you and we have to be able to adapt!

I went the asset management (tier 2) route after college. After working in the industry over the last few years I've been seeing a lot of challenges in this field. Companies like Vanguard and Fidelity have been outsourcing jobs a lot. Vanguard recently outsourced jobs to India that were originally in the United States. Not to mention automation is doing a lot of the work now. What else I realized is that if you want any kind of analytical role, such as being a mutual fund analyst or a trader, being a CFA or working toward the CFA designation I think may become the standard. Out of the 20 traders I worked with about 19 of them were CFA's. Just my opinion here, if you really want to excel in asset management, if you can't get into a top 10 or 20 MBA program, go for the CFA. But it's tough as nails to pass. Again that's my two cents, best of luck to everyone who loves this industry as much as I do.

120k a year but work 120 hours opposed to 40hours...
So you divide by 3
And your time to the company is valued at 40k a year... so 20 an hour
That’s dog shit pay for a bachelors in any state😂😂

I'm a credit analyst now at a non-banking firm in NYC, 3 years out of a target university with a good GPA. Let's see what the future holds

Hey I'm in my final year double majoring in Finance & Economics, I haven't done an internship yet but planning too at the end of this year. What would be your best recommendation for job prospecting if my plan is to start my own business in the next 5-7 years, so a short term high paying finance role with solid job satisfaction? Interested in financial analysis and possible credit and / or sales focused role ?

Great video and from someone who has worked in the industry for about 20 years, one of the areas you might want to cover is wealth management/private wealth. Also a very lucrative career with an more entrepreneurial spirit, but in many cases (especially if you're running your own firm: RIA, etc.), there really isn't a "cap" on your income. Otherwise, this is a really nice overview.

I'm definitely in the the stepping stone route. I don't go to a well known university and I'm already in my senior year. Pretty much all I have is my GPA lol

I didn't have an opportunity to go to college. I used the stepping stone path, behind the scenes. I'm 37 and have a senior management role. You can do ANY thing you want...make a plan, stick to it....

Great video, wish it was available when I was a freshman or sophomore in college. Another thing for students to consider, you don't need to start off in New York to be making this type of money. You'll likely be compensated close to your peers in NYC, if not the same, and your $100k/yr will go a lot further in cities such as Dallas, Houston, Charlotte which is great if you carry a large debt load. Plus, those cities typically aren't quite as competitive for spots and can lead to roles in cities such as New York or San Francisco after a year or two. For those of you that are either late to the game or not gaining any traction with roles in New York, this is a very viable path as well.
