So true! We have agency owners in our network that didn't fully realize how different it is to be the owner as compared to a producer. We always encourage perspective agency owners to talk with other agency owners in their area - as them what a typical day of work looks like. What do they enjoy? What don't they enjoy? What surfaced in year one of business that was unexpected? etc etc

Once someone has opened up shop, finding peers is really important. going through the journey together as you say - very well put.

I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned finding peers that are going through the journey alongside you - not individuals who are much further along, or much greener.

I'd love to open an independent agency. I work for a captive agency. I love the owner and the work environment but am very frustrated with the carrier. I am a newer agent. Learning to network and garner referrals but I can't stand it when my carrier doesn't have a market for them or is unreasonably priced. I want to help more people in more ways. I know I could inevitably run my own agency as I know I can do better for myself. The difficult part is I don't have the capital to start to get off the ground.
