That DIY hydration fluid recipe is something we are taught to make as kids in school in my country. Since it's a third world country and water borne diseases are very common in this area that hydration fluid recipe saves tons of lives every year especially in rural areas. So, the curriculum strictly provides the recipe in every grades in elementary school and we are taught to make that in school. So that, those children can provide the recipe whenever someone gets cholera, diarrhea or dysentery. That recipe I will never forget even if I lose my memory, lol!

4 cups of water
2 T sugar
1/2 teaspoon table salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon potassium (salt substitute)

Shake well in a mason jar/container and drink within 24 hours of making to prevent bacterial growth.

FYI 'Black Strap Molasses' is a natural sweetener naturally high in potasium, magnesium and iron, also has some sodium. It's the discarded byproduct of making refined table sugar from the sugar cane plant. So it's a much healthier alternative to refined sugar. It's not as sweet so as you use more you get more of the mentioned minerals. About 2-3 teaspoons per cup of water for desired sweetness.
I use it every day in lemon water and hot drinks. The magnesium also helps you poo. 10/10 highly recommend.

"Are you avoiding genetically modified foods? The you should consider avoiding chemicals that can genetically modify you" - audibly exclaimed when I heard this. It should be on a huge billboard

I made mine without the potassium salt cause I didn't have it on hand, but it really does taste like coconut water. How fascinating. I think it's the hint of sweet and the mouthfeel of the baking soda. Thanks so much for doing this research and sharing with us. I usually drink a sports drink when I'm feeling bad, but they have high fructose corn syrup and I was trying to find an alternative. I'll need to get my hands on the potassium salt, but I'm sure I can get the potassium from the food I eat.
I have been drinking so much water and it just didn't feel like it was doing anything. I got lucky this popped up.

I learned from another youtuber that "Natural Flavours" is a deceptive term. It (apparently) can be used for an flavour where a certain proportion/part of it is derived from nature (e.g. plant, animal) but then (apparently) other stuff can be added to it, with the label still saying "natural flavours". Essentially, it's something that needs to be avoided just as much as "artificial flavours".

I eat a banana a day, and make sure to regularly drink water 🚰 throighout the day, particularly on hot days. The best offense is a good defense.

With Ehlers Danlos syndrome I switched from spending a ton on stocking electrolyte drinks to just getting citrus fruits like limes & oranges (juice & peels all in the water hopefully with ice w/heat emergency intolerance), adding a dash of salt, natural sweetener like cane/palm/coconut sugar or honey, some coconut fluid from coconut milk & sometimes a dash of ginger or even curry powder. Absolutely an affordable game-changer plus it doesn't give me the awful side effects you mentioned like with those artificial sweeteners (I've *a l w a y s* gotten gut problems and pain from them and was failing at trial and error trying to afford and find brands that worked).

Happy to scrap the costly stuff for just the things found in nature needed by our human animal bodies this whole time anywho ✌️ 🌿

Thank you so so very much for making this video!!! Really truly deeply🙏🙏🙏🍊🥥🌊🧂🍯

I am an old crazy 75 year old tricycle rider. My go to is "elete' which I add to water (2 ml to 750 ml). No flavourings and no sugar. A 120ml little is expensive but it last a long time. The critical components are magnesium and potassium. Oh, and there is sodium. I started using electrolyte with flavourings but they really messed up my water bottles by growing some interesting (yuk) cultures over time. I found concentrate bottle a couple of years later and then "elete" brand in UK a year later. The "elete" brand is available in my local grocery store. I use it daily and it is always with me when I cycle tour.

When I was recovering from food poisoning, I enjoyed watery iced tea and miso soup. I could have used this info :)

Great Tips. I also find if I am Foggy or lack concentration, I haven't had enough to drink. I've had the same struggles in finding a good Hydration Remedy. My challenge with the $$$ Store Brands is that they often use High Fructose Corn Syrup, or Fructline Crystals (same). Also with Dextrose it is from corn. Corn Round Up etc. I've never sourced an Organic one and the Drinks meant to help Baby are the same. I so Appreciate your Recipes and Through.

Thank-you. I'd start with .5 liter of water, then add the 2nd .5 liter of water after mixing in the dry ingredients. A couple more shakes and you're done.

I always wondered why I crave fruit juice or some slightly sweetened tea instead of water at the end of the day during the Ramadan fast when I don't normally drink sweet beverages.
