Here is a quick guide on how to play coop and play with friends online in Elden Ring by summoning your friends. Playing Coop in souls games is always annoying but I tried to make it as simple as possible in order to play with your friends and invite them.

Joining a multiplayer game should not be this complex

The reason why people are mad because as they were advertising the game they said you can explore the world with friends. We took that for face value. When indeed you can’t explore the world. Only summon friends to help with a boss. We understand how souls games have ALWAYS been but it seemed to me that they were advertising this game to be different with coop. When it’s not.

I am going to answer my own questions since no One else has!
I bought two copies of Elden Ring on Playstation so my wife and I could co-op. This video was GREAT and got us connected easy! The co-op of the game is lame tho. Here are the reasons why.
1. If you co-op to fight a boss, once the host or boss is dead, ends the co-op.
2. If you co-op out in the open world, then it's just until one of you die and you have to summon them again, but it locks you out of boss dungeons.

So you need to know what "your" goal/s are.
The game is difficult and you just want a lil help? Great, call a friend, spend 20 minutes logging in together, lose the fight several times, spends several more times re-summoning each other, go find more materials needed to summon each other, kill the boss, apologize to your friend for the stress induced hateful things you said, then go buy a controller to replace the one you broke so you can continue playing next time.

If your goal was like mine, find a game to play "with" my wife... not happening. You die to much and can't spend the time re-summoning each other. Takes too long to learn the fights that way.
This game is NOT made to be a co-op game!
Pick another game as this game is 99% solo and ONLY co-op for when you KNOW someone that has progressed as far as you have and can help you in a particular fight.
Lastly, IMO DS fans needs to learn to be more understanding of others trying to play these games for the first time, answer thier questions, and help them find the love of these games that they have found!
I like this game but I don't want to be part of the fan base that just says things like "get gud" or "that's how all the From Software games are"... these are the laziest attempts to justify a game series as a great game series.

Thanks man. I’m usually soloing these games but my friend finally got on board. He’s going to need my help so he doesn’t quit hahaha

Awesome, I’ve played DS games before but I’ve only ever played single player. First time I’ll be using the multiplayer option.
The process isn’t hard necessarily, just little tedious. I can understand the summon signs for summoning for boss fights but I think it would be a lot smarter to make the open world exploration they hyped up about different. Friends can be summoned through the channel without needing to make a sign, death doesn’t end sessions unless in a boss room. This in my eyes would make it more enjoyable for everyone all around.

My brother and I were trying to figure this out for an hour so you definitely deserve my sub, all we needed was the crafting kit

The dark souls game franchise is the only one that seems to punish you just for having friends and getting them to buy the game.

They should make the friend invite thing infinite… I don’t want to craft it every single time just to play with friends

Me and my friend can pretty much go anywhere and do anything. But we also know how summoning works in darksouls so I suppose it's not as irritating for us as others here seem to think. It is needlessly complicated, but once you figure it out you can play with friends the whole way

Now that I finished the game completely alone it’s time to try online. I wanna help players who need help

The only thing that bothers me is when you summon your friend, they take away half of their health and mana bottles and they can’t use the horse…

Amazing video. The best explanation I’ve seen so far. It seems more difficult than it is tbh.

Advice for everyone. The flowers respawn every time you use a grace, so you can easily farm them.

And this is why my friend and I use Seamless Co-op. Never have to worry about invasions every 30 seconds and we have access to everything.

Awesome video, straight to the point, relaxed explanation. Subbed!

For those asking, hopefully this also saves alot of other people in the future from asking too, Co-op is not a permanent thing in a Soulsborne game.

You putting down a summon sign/picking up a summon sign is essentially a short term contract. The end clause of the contract has 3 standard ways it ends: 1 host dies. 2 helper dies. 3 boss/invader is killed. Obviously, item 3 is the end goal, and if that is accomplished, the game moves all those involved back to their respective worlds, many (insert currency name) richer for the helpers, and the summoner having gotten past that pesky foe in the way.

Now, in previous titles, and possibly this one, there was a mechanic of level differences interfering with summons, that way an endgame player couldn't just squish the second boss of the story for their friend, or something to that effect. I haven't seen confirmation of that system existing yet, and hopefully it's not in Elden Ring.

With Elden Ring, there is a large chance that you can explore all over with your friends, though it does seem to be closely linked to a boss being nearby. If so, that limits the summon area to near bosses/dungeons. The game has mentioned fog walls to rope off people from just exploring everywhere. And yes, that runs counter to most games Co-op/Multi-player logic, but the struggle of a Soulsborne game is on your shoulders alone, not a collective.

The game does have a new feature, of casting summon signs to nearby pools, which is a pretty neat mechanic, but not fully sure on its efficacy yet. Hopefully, they do away with the finger dip being how you see other people's signs.

If anyone has anything to add, to ask, or to correct with what I have said, feel free to comment. Keep it civil.

This is NOT a multi-player game! NO it is NOT a Co-op game. And YES the developers lied when they said it was!

I love these games but idc, they just need to make a simple join or invite option at this point.

I particularly don’t like the invasion or co op system in any souls game. It’s just a meme at this point.
