(Tokyo Olympics medal hopes dashed after her horse in the riding discipline refused to jump a number of fences. The German was comfortably in the lead of the women’s four-discipline competition heading into the third event. No amount of hitting will help the horse stress. And no human in his her right mind would try to calm the horse while histerically crying on top of it. The horse has to trust you to give you the control. You can have the control with confidence and or calmness. There is so much wrong with this video. Poor sportmanship. Sometimes admitting defeat is the fair way.

My empathy is only for the horse. He was stressed and did NOT want to do this. He shouldnt have been forced to. We (humans) need to listen to animals more when they're tryna tell us something.

It's really painful to watch... Especially if someone has empathy. I hope this poor horse won't be exposed to such stress in the future.

The horse was clearly stressed before she went into the arena; probably was refusing at the warm up fences beforehand. She doesn't understand that horses are not robots, you do not just point them at the fence and they will jump every time with no input from the rider. It's your job to support the horse around the course, not just gun it at the fences and hope it will make it to the other side. If this was governed by USEA rules, she would have been yellow carded for excessive use of the whip.

This is so infuriating to me, she is acting like a spoilt brat and should not be allowed to ride a horse ever again, the horse is clearly distressed

Doesn't she know if a horse acts like that all of a sudden, something is really wrong with him? He is drenched in sweat, and wide eyed and is balking not spooking. Can't she read her own horse? this is not fear, it looks like pain. Jesus, she is acting like a spoiled crying child riding a bad pony. Clearly the horse is trained to do jumping so it is not fear, so something physically must be happening if he won't jump. Cruel and I could not watch the whole thing. Makes me sick.

Bulging eyes, bared teeth, the horse is tailing - all signs of extreme pain. If it were a dog or a cat, it would howl and scream. Horses, unfortunately, are silent. I'm very sorry for the horse. Judging by the symptoms, the horse's back is pinched, because it cannot even really dismount the rider. It is clear that the participant wanted to take part in the competition, but there is also human compassion.

Horse riding was voted out by the International Modern Pentathlon Union (UIPM), the governing body of the modern pentathlon, last November after a horse was punched by a coach at last year's games.

Horse was being pulled too much by the bit. He coud not get any release from the pain - that is why he was not listening. Clear riders fault.

After hearing from PETA US and PETA Germany, UIPM – the international governing body of the modern pentathlon – has voted to remove horse riding from the modern pentathlon.

This is an Olympic-size win for horses!

For all the fuss I am hearing, I was expecting to see a swing like Mongo in Blazing Saddles. That looked like a pretty awkward angle and about as useless as a toddler swinging at me. Pretty sure the horse barely noticed that hit. She should have been far more professional and mature at that level but can we stop acting like she took a 2x4 to its head?
