I understand the frustration and how disappointed she mustve been after this happened, especially during the olympics. BUT, this behavior still isnt acceptable. That horse was in flight mode, panicked and afraid. Her smacking the animal repeatedly doesnt help. I get that many people in her shoes might cry or breakdown, but the first priority while riding is always communication. The horse wouldnt jump because Anika was not properly communicating with it. In fact, her sobbing most likely got the horse even more worked up. Disappointments happen, but we all have to man up and not take out our emotions on others, especially a confused and frightened animal.

horses are flight animals, any amount of her obvious nervousness and emotion goes directly to the horse, she looks like she does not know what she’s doing. any experienced rider would have tried to calm the clearly distressed horse...not whip it

I understand very little about horses, but I know enough to know that her repeatedly kicking was just stressing him out even more. I’m sure it’s very upsetting being disqualified too.. I hope she learned from this

Notice how she makes it worse by not trying to calm him dow, but she keeps trying to kick him forwards and whips him? What does she thinks gonna happen?

To me this horse looks soured, like he is so sick of same thing over and over. Needs to spend several months just trail riding let him enjoy himself.

Once the horse had an issue probably her nervousness of being on a strange horse comes into play. The human has to be calm for the horse to settle. Her actions intensified the situation. Personally. She would never ride an animal of mine. There is no excuse for her actions or the way she kicked and pulled on the reins.

That poor horse, she was frustrated and the horse can sense that so decided to just try an beat the horse. Not the horses fault at all. Just a spoiled brat that if she can’t her way she’ll just cry and try to beat the horse. It’s a tough sport but just don’t blame the horse! It was the rider error.

This woman is full of ego & gives the sport a horrific name. She should have got off immediately the horse napped & quietly lead him out of the ring. Appears the animal has been whipped before...awful

If you do research on this event, the horses are randomly chosen for each rider. Thus, the rider and horse have no familiarity with each other. So obviously luck comes into play in that get a horse that will be cooperative.

Trust your horse, something is not right. Its just one day. It doesnt define you or the horse. Horses feel subconscious emotion and can often be displayed this way. Horse jay need some paddock time and a little break from showing . Wishing them all the best.

I was disappointed when she whipped him, it’s obvious the horse was feeling bad/ nervous.
