TIL (today I learned) these are called “Stat Trainers” because they give out certain -IVs- EVs when you defeat their Pokémon. Might be a laborious way to farm -IVs- EVs, but I think it was a good way for the game to be self aware & build upon the process to actively train your Pokémon more competitively.

Edit: Was confused with IVs, so changed it to the more accurate EVs.

Always loved these 5, they were a reminder that the game still gets hard even when you beat Cynthia. We desperately need Buck, Riley, and Mira to get into masters. I think we know why Cheryl and Marley were remembered by fans in particular, haha.

I really hope Mira gets added to pokemon masters. She is probably the most forgettable trainer of the 5 of them, but she would look super cool with Togekiss or Porygon-Z

The kid me felt so proud to have helped all these people. Then when I got to battle them, I was so hyped.

Then I saw Riley in the anime and I was like; "OMG IT'S THAT DUDE FROM IRON ISLAND!"

And when he and Lucario nearly sacrificed themself against Team Galactic, aaaah.

I liked helping all of them.

I hated Wayward Cave. I didn't know how to get Flash back then.

But the accomplishments....!

The stat trainers were my favorite thing in gen 4. Their choice in pokemon, even their names are a pun for grains. Cereal, Oatmeal, Rye, Barley, and Buckwheat, in that order.

I honestly didn't expect Cheryl to have any significance outside of Eterna Forest when I played Gen 4 for the first time, but I guess I was wrong.

I seriously hope that the hypothetical remakes will give these guys a greater role. I like all of them.

I'm mad nostalgic for this game. One of my favorite games and I loved the post game content like this. I hope this gets remade and accurately remade at that.
