"Usain Bolt is just a human with max IV's" is about all the explanation I needed

I'm such a casual player that I don't even look a base stats; I just use a Pokemon if I think it looks cool, which seems to have worked for the last almost 10 years.

One day I'll figure it out, not tonight.

To quote Pokemon Rusty: "Wow! None of that sounded like fun!"

I have a love-hate relationship with EV-IV. Before,
I was happily playing Pokemon and defeating random Pokemon to level up. But now that I know what EV-IV were all about, I can't help but get this urge to do everything right.. defeat hundreds of the right EV yields...get the max EVs.. only to despair because getting the perfect IV is just harder than winning the million-dollar lottery.
For those among us, the knowledge of EV-IV is like a Pandora's Box.

"Pokemon should be raised with love and care!"
* Loved pokemon gets trashed by pokemon bred only to battle.
"All pokemon are unique"
*Keeps trying to breed for perfect IV's and EV's and gets same ones over and over.
"They our are friends!"
*Stored in box forever because it doesn't work on my team for competitive.
How funny. You keep spreading these messages, Nintendo, when in reality you have to breed dozens of them because your main adventure pokemon have messy EV's and IV's, and become useless competitively.

I remember watching this video way back, and coincidentally i ended up here again after searching about IVs and EVs today.
I just wanna say the production value for a 2013 (!!!!) video is just *insane*. This looks just like it could be released to youtube today, apart from a few limitations like the resolution. But the animation, presentation and voice quality are amazing! Truly ahead of your time!

I kinda liked it when your EVs didn't show until you leveled up. Seeing a +13 in the stat you were training was so satisfying

I used to dislike EVs, but the whole concept and execution is simple once you understand it. With the right tools, it's pretty fast too. IVs? I'm sure most people would be happy if they went away... unless they love to tediously ride their bikes in a videogame... a LOT.

As of Sword/Shield:
- Vitamins (Carbos, Zinc, etc) can be used all the way up to 252 EVs
- You can use the Hammerlocke University stat sessions in Pokejobs to add EVs; the game refers to EVs as Base Points
- Hyper Training lets level 100 Pokémon train IVs to the max

If I were to play Pokemon competitively, I could handle the EV training, but IV is where it becomes tedious. I probably wouldn't bother. I would only breed pokemon for a specific nature but that's about it.

How does anyone else feel about IV?

I don't do EV training but I do Eevee training

This morning, I traded a Pokemon on the wonder trade just for fun, and subsequently received an adamant beldum with five perfect IVs.
Yeah.

EVs - Increased through training and performance enhancers
IVs - Increased through eugenics

The world of pokemon gets darker and darker the longer you think about it.

The thing about EVs and IVs is that you pretty much have to learn about them and employ these methods in training your Pokemon if you're going to do well in online play. So many people train their Pokemon this way that if you just level up your monsters in a casual way, you most likely won't stand much of a chance in battle. I've learned this through using Pokemon I've caught and trained in the story modes of my games and used them in online play. My Torterra who plowed his way through the Sinnoh region cannot hold his own on the internet.

So....even though I don't like the whole EV/IV. I'm kind of forcing myself to learn about them out of necessity. You got to keep up with competition after all. :-/
