A PIP is essentially the employer's version of a two weeks notice. Don't waste your time trying to beat it; just pack up and leave. The employer will just shift the goal posts and treat you like crap.

PIP will stay permanent in your record. You will be denied promotion or pay raise based on this alone.

It's nonsense. They want to fire you. They have to notify you to protect themselves. At a firm I worked in I saw people getting fired after they worked for the firm for 10 or more years. So, why was someone good enough not good enough now? It became apparent to me--they were turning 62 in a few months. Right on schedule when I was getting close to 62 I was getting a lot of pressure, so I retired.

This is only fair if employer actually trains new employees or haw their boss lead/mentor. You cannot expect them to do it all on their own by handing this to them

Agree with all the comments. A PIP is basically a death sentence lol. Never seen something good come out of this. Do yourself a favor and quit before you get fired. A PIP is basically your manager putting on record why you're going to get fired.

PIPs are done by bad bosses to get rid of hard working employees they do not like. Many times the bosses use them to cover up their own mistakes. I know this is true because I have the boss's bad behavior on tape.

Take it from a division manager who has been on the receiving (early in my career) and giving end (recently in my career) of a PIP -

Performance improvement plans are NOT designed for you to improve. You’re essentially being shown the door with courtesy.

1. Do your best
2. Get ahead of it and find another job

Follow those two steps and you’ll land softly. I’m sorry to you and your family you’re going through this.
