41 and anxious most of it and my alarms are always changing. I conquer and get hit with something new. It's a vicious cycle.

This is great. I have many fire alarms going off all day in my head. Over the past few months I’ve been trying to push myself to face things that I fear that have become more difficult over recent years like socialising, getting in touch with people, certain domestic tasks that overwhelm me. Facing them actually feels much better than avoiding them. One big thing that has helped me immensely with my OCD- dogs. One year it was my New Year’s resolution to pet my family dog more. She helped me so much with my OCD, and since then I’ve developed a big connection with dogs and they are so healing and bring me so much joy to the point I can hug them and don’t care if they walk on my bed, because my love and appreciation for them has become stronger than my OCD.

I’m stuck Nathan…..I’m really struggling to get through every day…I’m always in a 5 alarm fire in my body and brain….thanks for your videos, I just want to feel normal again. DPDR is bad and I have so many sensations my brain won’t ignore. I’m not sleeping and I know that doesn’t help…..

Anxiety as a protector! It's warning you about possible threats so it can keep you safe. At least that's the intention 🙂

So ironic to see you post this one today since my fire alarm literally went off twice and both were false alarms! Thanks for all you do Nate!

Okay...but if the real life fire alarm is going off, you do have to go check it out.

And that is how anxiety keeps me on my toes, because you never know when there will be a real fire or a real cause for preparedness in a situation, social or otherwise.

I think that this was a dangerous analogy. Actual fire alarms should not be ignored. My father-in-law was a firefighter and he warned us about how incredibly fast fire spreads. He told us to get out instantly. It sounds the same whether there is a real fire or not. Not a risk to be taken lightly.

Maybe the analogy could be to the smoke detector going off when something is smoking in the kitchen? Although in that case the element of uncertainty is missing.

Anxiety stems from real toxic people.
This is not our hallucination.
If we were hallucinating, if our brain was the cause of problem - we would see phantasms everywhere all the time.
