Japanese Soft Black Paint Washing Process

The Berlina Black S2000 has notoriously soft paint that scratches at nearly every wash. Even with Cquartz UK/TiO2 on the paint, I still needed to implement a separate washing procedure from what I normally do.

Gotta go back and rewatch the old videos every once in a while. So cool to see the evolution of OG, but man that wash bay will always be my favorite. I hope to build something similar one day.

You have no idea how relieving it is to listen someone speaking well and making sense.. my co workers and friends are like robots operating in neutral

Hi Matt. Just wanna say thanks for always posting chill videos packed with useful information that isn't rammed down our throats. In the world of hyper YouTube personalities, i find your laid back chill approach to things somehow therapeutic. I usually stop what i am doing to just hang out with you for a bit and listen to you unburden yourself for our viewing pleasure, so again thank you very much. Side note you got a shout out from Jim over at WhiteDetails recently. Considering the levels he's operating at was cool to see tips and tricks getting shared. Every day's a school day as they say....

Also it was nice of you to put a mention in for Tim (Shmee150). Life these days tends to be somewhat black and white, you either have to love something or hate it. At first i wasn't sure about Tim but as i watched more of his videos i was glad i gave him a chance. I'm sure he's aware of the hate, he mentioned in one of his vids people mention his face is very punchable.

However he puts him self out there day in and day out, he's humble and never comes across entitled. Sure he's a bit posh, sometimes overly cheesy and can get very technical. However thats his way of showing his love of cars, which are all driven and enjoyed by the way. I'm glad he's over a million subs, shows me that the haters are very much in the minority.

Anyway keep up the good work brother, keep being you and we will keep watching.

Cheers

I've been watching for a solid 8 months now, if I find myself having a stressful day, I can always come and watch a wash video and chill out. Matt, you've truly inspired me to do anything and everything in my power to reach my goals and keep working towards the things I want out of life. Dreams don't work unless you do. Keep up the videos!

Have you looked into other methods of the pre wash? Very common here in Europe to use a diluted degreaser on the paint first to attack the grime and loosen it up. Also use a more dedicated pre-wash foam and not car soap that is also a bit better at attacking the dirt. Not to mention we then rinse the car off, before touching it. If I were you I would use something a bit more aggresive foam and maybe some diluted APC on the car, let that sit for 5-10 minutes and rinse it off. Then go ahead and foam it again for lubrication. The pre-wash is the most important part of a car wash, less dirt on the paint means less chance of it being scratched.

Nice video Matt. When you start working with Ech2o I have found that mixing it at 1:20 which is a detail spray mix works well. I tend to use it as a drying aid or touching up areas that may have a little water left after blowing off the surface. Some have mixed Reload into some Ech20 and use that as like a "spray wax" so you may want to look into that and test that out. Anyway looking forward to more videos. Keep up the good work.

I finally see the transparency in the process, what is necessary from what is over kill. You are starting to pull away from the other DIY detailers, keep making these type of videos.

The best “how to wash a black car” video ever!
I recently bought a brand new black car and panic every time I wash it.
