As a millennial who married at a young age, I had a lot to learn about life and money. Newlyweds have a lot on their plate. So many decisions, so much change and there is no roadmap to a successful marriage. Here I break the 3 levels to successfully combine your money with your spouse.
Level 1 is combining your accounts. This is simply creating a joint account or adding each other to your existing accounts. This is an easy process and a step in the right direction. This will allow you to start working together and acting as a team but it doesn't stop there.
Level 2 is combining your income. You see having an account together is one thing but depositing all of your income into this joint account is the next level. This puts everything on the table and leaves nowhere to hide. You have to drop the mask and talk to each other about how you plan to spend the family's money. This will cause plenty of disagreements but it will also cause you to learn to work together.
Level 3 is where you combine your financial vision. This is was the magic happens. This is how your break the cycle of poverty, set your family up to build wealth, and achieve things you never thought were possible.
