These questions are so out there! When my wife and I got married 45 years ago we agreed that what’s mine is OURS and what’s hers is OURS! We never tried to divide assets in any way, shape or form. We managed our finances, lived within our means, agreed on any major purchases… and retired early with financial security. Money was never a source of arguments! Wish I could have another 45 years with her!

When your new husband worked and supported themselves UNTIL you combined finances and now surprisingly doesn't want to work at much of anything anymore. What's the answer to that one? Asking for a friend.

Separate accounts help prevent one spouse from abusing the other financially. You marry a person, not a bank account. A spouse should be a partner, not a parasite. Beware of gold diggers!

Me(61) met my wife (60) in 2001 and married her in 2014 when our respective children from other marriages left the house. We continued to pay the bills as we did before we got married. I brought many assets to the union and she brought only student debt. She decided to divorce me Feb 2021. I did not want to split. Had I joined all our finances it would have been a complete mess. There is no reason to combine complete resources if you can agree on how to make it work. Also, no reason to ever get married since 80% of all marriages are initiated by women.

I love how Dave says that him and his wife both earn their money, even though she hasn't worked outside the home for over 30 years.

If her husband died and left her $ it was to make sure their 4 kids were well cared for. Set the money aside to honor your first husband’s wishes and take care of your 4 kids.

Sugar momma! There is so much more to this somehow. 38 and has that much and bought a house 500k cash. That guy stepped into a pile of money. Her ex must have been worth millions.

Separate accounts make sense, especially for blended families. Separate accounts encourage personal accountability. Separate accounts also help prevent one spouse from abusing the other financially. You marry a person, , not a bank account.

If you don’t want to combine finances then there’s something about your husband/wife you don’t trust . OR maybe you’re the one with trust issues and you’re projecting on the other person. Whichever the case, why even marry someone you don’t trust?? 🤷‍♀️

My husband & I always say “we” & operate that way in spirit, but we in fact do have multiple accounts between us. Lol, I think the only thing keeping us from combining the whole enchilada is the hassle 😹
Anyway, works for us.
