I love this! I am a chemist and I want to let you know DONT put essential oils in plastic bottles. They will react with the plastic. Some of those reaction products could be worse for you than the products on the shelf!! And protected from light is much better as well!! Light breaks those essential oils down

I would suggest using a dark colored glass bottle so that the essential oils dont go bad! Thank you so much for giving us these tips!!

I watched both your videos on this recipe. Made up a batch and the first night I used it over at my neighbors house. We all sat out by the pool and not a single bite. Smells great. Now my Mom who lives in the woods uses this recipe and I've even given a travel bottle to a fellow gardener. Thanks from deep in the heart of Texas!

Just a FYI: bergamot and lemon are both citrus oils that will make your skin hyper reactive to UV rays. People have gotten very serious burns this way. Citronella, contrary to what the name suggests, is not from a citrus fruit, so that's fine.

I would leave those two out of the recipe if you plan to be wearing this bug repellant on sunny days. Instead of the bergamot, use geranium, like WellnessMama, and instead of the lemon, try lemongrass essential oil, which also has bug repellent properties.

The other option is to go ahead and use the citrus oils, and then just spray your bug spray on your clothes and not your skin. If you're going to do that, you could even add some pennyroyal oil, which is a powerful bug repellant, but too strong for skin. Maybe leave out the glycerine, which isn't great for some fibers.

Those are my thoughts, hope they're helpful!

To eliminate mosquitos, fill 5 gallon pail 1/2 water. Buy floating mosquitos donuts at the hardware store. Float one in the water. This will not only kill the mosquitos but the eggs as well. Put out several buckets to cover large area and enjoy your outdoors.

I got lost when I heard that vodka is needed but then relaxed after I heard that only one spoon will be wasted

💜 I have used essential oils for many years, this is a great recipe however one should always use glass bottles as the oils can have a reaction releasing chemicals from the plastic which can degrade your oils. Also some oils are photosensitive and should not come in contact with your skin if you are going to be in the sun. Thank you for sharing 💜

Back when I was in the U.S. Marine Corps, we used Skin So Soft as a bug repellent. It works amazingly good.

I live in the Tropics on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Right now it's rainy season when there are lots of mosquitoes. I discovered a few years ago that if I dab lavender essential oil on strategic spots on my arms and legs that it alone keeps mosquitoes away. It works much better than commercial products and doesn't leave my skin feeling greasy. While I don't doubt the benefits of the spray recipe presented in this video, essential oil can be expensive, especially if you are using so many different types. I just make sure the lavender essential oil is the real thing and not a synthetic product.

I’ve been using your recipe all summer on myself and my family and it works!!! Way better than any store bought ones! 😃 so thanks for this! ❤️

Don’t leave that in your garden in that plastic bottle. If exposed to the sun it should be in a dark glass bottle but I wouldn’t leave it in the sun at all.

I made this last summer but never really used it. I have flies on the patio this year and this is fantastic! I spray down the cushions and underside of umbrellas and the bugs leave! Really this is great! No mosquito bites either. Thank you so much.

Thank you Rachel - I am a bug buffet! Anything that bites within 5 miles knows when I am outside. Love the idea of a natural repellent. I always have been concerned about chemical absorption and I am definitely going to try this recipe! It so funny - I just received my first order of Plant Therapy oils so I think this was meant to be!

First, I want to say, thank you, thank you for putting ingredients/amounts in the description!!! So many videos drag you along for 10 minutes before ever hinting at the ingredients or how much to use, thank you, you are obviously genuinely trying to provide helpful information.

Second, you say that mosquitos "like" HAHA! Believe me when I tell you, that they ADORE me.... mosquitoes will migrate across 5 state lines to bite me.... something about my blood/chemistry is irresistible.... evidently, my blood is more addictive than crack cocaine... Here, where I live, they literally arrive with 2 gallon gas cans and a funnel to siphon my blood....they look like desert hummingbirds. Thanks again for the video, I will be giving it a try.

Can't wait to try it. Besides the fact that the essential oils will degrade in sunlight, some essential oils will actually eat away at plastic. So when using essential oils glass bottles are always best especially when applying on skin.

Thank you for your video! I just want to mention that bergamot and lemon are citrus essential oils, all of which can make you photo-sensitive. I learned this the hard way when used them in a homemade body lotion years ago. I went to the beach and got the worst burn of my life where I had blisters under many layers of peeling skin after five days of peeling! I have a naturally olive complexion and rarely burn otherwise, even at the beach. Otherwise I'm going to try your formula. 😊😊
