Final tip: after completing the 30 min fix ( which looks decent in all seriousness), move the hanging picture 12 inches to the left😅.

One additional note on the screws: You want them just below the surface, but NOT breaking the paper on the drywall.

Good job! I struggle with the finishing and especially trying to match texture.

The stainless 6” and 4” knives that have a continuous transition to the handle are so good. Never rust, super smooth surface that’s easy to clean. Can’t recommend them enough. But then again, I finished 8 rooms from raw drywall, so having really good knives was worth it.

As someone who does this for a living, he does know what he’s talking about and it’s not a bad method. For any first-timers that don’t have to hurry, start with pre-mixed mud ($5.98 at Lowe’s and it comes with a plastic spatula), get used to doing it, then move to hot mud.

Thanks! This is going to come in handy since my wife keeps punching holes in our drywall.

How do people not understand it's possible to both demonstrate a cheap, quick fix while also recommending better tools?
Anyway, really informative video. Chances are I'll be fixing a whole in the wall at some point because that's just how life works lol

Includes 2 in, 3-in, 4-in, and a 6-in- 1 tool

I know this is a quick and easy demo, but if is wall is perfectly smooth, it's essentially impossible for that not to be hilariously obvious. That said, the one thing that really can be hard to wrap your head around is how easy it is to thin the mud down and run it over the bumps and valleys of the first coat. Unless it''s super chattery, the ridges and such act as rails for the knife to glide over, and it can get super smooth.

Is there a reason you didn't use screws to hold the patch in place? Just thinking that if you mount something somewhat heavy there, there isn't much holding the patch to the wall.

For a diy'er who has not done this job before, I think the pre-mixed joint compound would be a better choice.

How dare you do that to a 360 controller, the king of all controllers

I don't think using just any screws should be encouraged..non-drywall screws don't have the fluted head that the paper wants to see, and other shapes are more likely to tear the paper. That paper is what gives drywall its strength. Additionally, don't use fine thread drywall screws. Those are for metal studs.

All this for a 2x4 sized hole?😂 nah, getting the mesh and spackle

The patch is 100% visible. Don't do this people. There are actual drywall people on youtube with easy to follow tutorials that will give you better results. I wouldn't even comment on this except it is being passed off as a proper repair.

Anything is a hammer if you use it hard enough.

Yea, textures come in three different varieties. Cheap looking, cheaper looking and really cheap looking. Texture is just to hide poor initial construction and save labor over a good finish. Sorry.
