Here’s what parents need to know about a new 2023 CDC report on the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder. Among 8-year-old children, the CDC estimates one in 36 has ASD, according to 2020 data. That’s up from one in 44 children in 2018. The CDC also found fewer 4-year-old children were evaluated for autism in 2020, likely due to the COVID-19 pandemic making it harder for families to access screening. In this video, Dr. Kristin Sohl offers parents tips on what signs should prompt a conversation with their child’s pediatrician about their child’s development.
