Gravitas Plus: Fashion houses say they are sustainable. They are lying.

Sustainable Fashion is an oxymoron. The fashion industry accounts for 8 to 10% of the total greenhouse emission, cotton fields use 11% of the world's pesticides, 35% of the microplastics in the ocean are from clothes.
Fast fashion is hitting our health, planet and wallet.
Palki Sharma calls out the sustainable fashion hoax.

I was criticized for having less clothes and not updating my clothes. Thank you for making me realize that I've made a right choice.

My clothes have a lifecycle:
1) New, wear to special occasions
2) Very good, wear to go out
3) Used, wear around the house
4) Overused, wear while working outdoors
5) Tattered, use as rags, wipe cloths, packing items for safe keeping/protection

In India parents even keep their children's clothes in trunks for years so that it can be used for their grandchildren and after that it can also be used as poocha....😁lol we are epitome of 3R's.

My God, this woman !! She is just fire, she can destroy anything and everything, anyone and everyone in a span of 10 mins. She carefully picks up her words, sarcasm which will pierce through any defense system.

In my home, old t-shirts are reused as floor mops (Pochha), old sarees as Gudadi (a kind of quilt for babies), old bedsheets as small mattresses for babies, old pants as jhola ( a bag to carry vegetables or other groceries). Babies' nappies (langoti) are always made at home from old soft clothes. There are many more in the list of clothes reusing. 😁

So proud of myself even after being taunted by friends for being a bit out of fashion, I never fell for this trendy fashion.

I've been wearing the same crap for 10 years. I remember when bootcut was in.

Celebrities who change clothes every hour teach us to protect the environment and we blindly believe in their words. Celebrities especially Indians are spurious.

*The way companies have successfully managed to shift the blame on individuals when their factories have to most impact on the environment 🌳 🍀 🌅 and sustainability is incredible to me.*

*the zero waste chef said, "We don't need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions doing it imperfectly." fashion is the same!*

"Profit & Planet are mostly incompatible". One of the best line I've read so far

I hardly throw clothes away. I look after them and wear them years later with something new... the key is to buy some 'classic' clothes which never go out of fashion and quality clothes which can be worn when they come back in fashion... mix and match old and new

Till the time we all decide as a consumer that I won't have more than 5-6 clothes, nothing is sustainable.

This woman can make and break anything that goes against the ethics of life. Keep up the good work going. The world needs you.

Khadhi is very sustainable and eco friendly. It can be used as a soft power and gain international recognition if our government can promote it.

My mom bought me a pant when I was studying in 10th. It was two size no. more than what I used to wear then. Now, it's been 10years since then and I still wear it with and without belts. All praise to my mom, she thought I'll grow and will have to spend less next year, now she has contributed to reduce fashion loss....wow Indian mom are always genius

I wear my clothes until they literally fall apart.
Then they start their second life as cleaning rags.
But I buy mostly cheap and disregard "green labels". I don't care for any company promises, they can't be trusted.
