I can think of two other reason the PS2 was very successful. First off, it was the cheapest DVD player at the time of its release, which enticed a lot of non-gamers to buy it (eventually they also started playing games on it as well). Another is that between the discontinuation of the Dreamcast in March 2001 and the release of the Gamecube in September 2001, there was a five month window where PS2 was the only 6th generation console available, which allowed Sony to accumulate more sales during this time.

The PS2 was also the cheapest DVD player on the market so that helped drive the sales numbers up. Why would people buy a normal DVD player when you can buy a cheaper one that also plays video games? Sony had the perfect set up with the PS2.

I miss those days. Made a lot of good friends on Xbox Live playing Halo 2, Midnight Club 2, Burnout 3 so many nights that turned into early mornings. Seems like a lifetime ago. Although I owned PS2 it was only for exclusives my multiplats I played on Xbox.

I saw the original Xbox but up screen on the Xbox one backwards compatibility and a stream of emotions and memories hit me hard, definitely was a special time to play games

I love every console ! I always get all of them, they all have something to offer, from Sony and Nintendo games to Xbox and PC combo, I play my Xbox most, I work in HVAC and I get home really late and sometimes I just don't wanna deal with PC problems, sometimes I feel like I troubleshoot and move slider more than playing ! even tho my PC is pretty beefy is just a drawback . So having a Xbox that plays games pretty good makes it my go to 3rd party machine ! Sony makes amazing games !!! And Nintendo has I believe better games than sony 🤩. In conclusion they are all great !

The original Xbox is still the coolest console I own. Immensely powerful for its time and if just looked like some alien box.
