This is INCORRECT at 0:07, all PS2 Slims are backwards compatible, it's just that later PS2 slims have less playable PS1 games due to not having the I/O chip (PS1 CPU) so it relies entirely on software emulation.

All models of ps2 slim are compatible with ps1 🙄

I have several different models of the slim (although, I didn't know that their were 4 in actuality), but all of mine play PS1 games perfectly. To be honest, this is the first time that I've ever heard of a PS1 game not working in any PS2.

0:06 Actually, all PS2 models are PS1 backwards compatible. I have one of the model 90s (the last one in the vid) and play PS1 games on it all the time. It works great!

I bought a model 90 recently as it has the most fitting look next to the ps3 and ps4 slim, its also Ideal for having the power brick integrated (thats why the connector is different), so that means less clutter behind the console. It was already incredible to me how small the 7xxxx slims were, and then they even managed to fit the power supply into it with the 9xxxx, that's just crazy 🤯. Btw, it plays PS1 games just fine.

lol I remember seeing the last model at Toys R Us as late as 2014-2015. It was so weird, since we were already at the PS4/XBOX One era.

I have the Model 90, it has been with me even to this day! On the model 90, you can actually take off that shiny plastic cover off (with a heat gun then pry it gently) as it is held with double sided tape. I've found that out when I wanted to swap the shiny cover with a broken PS2 slims that I bought online.

The 7900X models actually shrank the circuit board down, which is the reason why they are so much lighter

Another difference: the late 90xxx series has only 1 sensor and a disc stopper in the DVD drive, while all others have 2 sensors and a disc stopper. That second sensor they removed was inside the console, but since it caused a lot of problems with the DVD drive, they decided to remove it. The final 90xxx model also didn’t support firmware updates installed on a memory card, which also meant there was no way to install FreeMCBoot on it (altough alternate exploits were made for those models). The power supply was also internal (which is why the plug is different). All consoles were backwards compatible, the later ones used software emulation however.

Got the Model 90 from 2009, honestly it's the best console I've ever played

All of them are PS1 compatible, but only the first has the I/O chip that increases compatibility.
I've owned all of them... Several times, when I used to fix, hack and sell them. Turned a nice profit from modchipping and getting OPL running on them too.

Had a 7500x growing up, though it started scratching my discs. After some research I bought a 7900x due to it having a lot more clearance with the laser ribbon and it not relying on adhesive to hold it away from the disc.

I actually had the model 79. Did not know there were 4 different models of the ps2 slim!

Wow, I’ve never seen a model 90 before, didn’t even know they existed, thank you for this video!

Every single model of the PS2 up to the final SCPH-90xxx builds are almost fully backwards compatible to PS1 games.
Plus, the power input on the final model isn't just "different" – they managed to again build in the power supply unit like they did on the fat PS2 (the ones up to SCPH-50xxx). The other slim models rely on external power bricks. This comes, tho, at the price of the final slim model needing its own vertical stand solution that has become a sought-after collectible.
Get your facts straight, pal.
