Safety Third is a weekly show hosted by William Osman, NileRed, The Backyard Scientist, AllenPan and a couple other YouTube "Scientists". Sometimes we have guests, sometimes it's just us, but always: safety is our number three priority.

It was a wise choice to release a podcast about the very specific 3 days of guessing about the sub about 4 months after it happened.

I am imagining they will release the 2023 opensauce episode during the 2024 live show

I love how the description still calls it a weekly show

For the airline thing:

It's not safe for infants to ride on their parent's lap in the unlikely event of a crash, it's very likely to be fatal. But the cost of getting them their own seat would force many parent to drive instead, which is far more likely to cause a fatality

I was literally checking the channel yesterday, thinking "I haven't seen a new Safety Third in a while" only to see it had been months since an upload, and then BAM, today we get a new episode!

53:00 I applied to MIT thinking 99% I wouldn’t get in, because my high school GPA and SAT were below average in my high school. But I got in (and was in PhysicsGirl’s class actually)!!! So everyone should try, as you miss 100% the shots you don’t take.
But you guys are successful now, whatever path you took. Look, there were a bunch of MIT graduates in the OpenSauce audience and perhaps none on stage :)
MIT *was* nerd heaven. OpenSauce 2023 reminded me SO MUCH of MIT. Thank you for putting the convention together, I really look forward to going year after year.
(Nerds are driven by curiosity and persistence, regardless of the school you go to. And you meet the people in your life on your journey. It’s unique and special wherever you go!)

That little hole by William's ear is probably a preauricular pit! They show up in a small percentage of humans, and are thought to be a remnant of gills.

When you feel worse for Alan’s plushie production than the submarine guys

I would honestly rather have these guys build me an actual submarine than that company.

Can you guys update the description? This isn't a weekly podcast anymore it's a we'll upload whenever we feel like it and one of the hosts doesn't even show up any more.

I joined my local maker space last year here in Milwaukee Wisconsin and it is super cool! It has two huge buildings that are open 24/7 for members and have classes on 3D printing, laser printing, blacksmithing, welding, woodworking, and even stained glass. As a young woman going to school architectural engineering, it is really cool to have a place to go to that is hands-on and feel welcomed.

The backyard scientist sounds different today, but looks the same. Congrats on beginning puberty!

27:50 Most of deep water exploration crafts have wires going in-out of the pressure vessel, they're usually one hole with a lot of wires in single port, they're engineered to be really really strong, usually stronger than what the hull can take.

I went to Case, (I actually have Ian on facebook, ) thinkbox was a huge reason I chose the school, and I spent a lot of time there. We 3d printed miniature sets pieces during even my theater classes, but my main time there was in the robotics club and for my final. It's a great spot!
