Same experience here! Got rejected from a typical British uni for marine biology and instead went to a tiny, rural university based at a marine science institute and it was the best thing that could have happened to me! Non traditional university experiences can be fantastic!

I rejected my DREAM university to go to somewhere not as prestigious and do a completely different degree, 4 years later im about to start a PhD at the same uni (alongside meeting the love of my life!!). sometimes life has funny ways of giving you what you need, not what you think you want. So proud of you!

aww I got rejected by uni in 2020 and I re-applied to the same uni a year later and got in after doing a foundation year in another uni I did not love but now I just finished my 2nd year and im studying in Taipei in September I can't wait!! even thought I should technically of had my graduation yesterday but life is much better now <3333

hi Jade - I was rejected from oxford in the same year as you (actually that was when I found you haha!). Now I'm doing a PhD at cambridge! I guess the lesson I learned is to embrace whatever happens along the way - good or bad;) Happy graduation!

I actually got accepted into the uni I wanted, but the best thing I did was visiting it with an open mind and OH DEAR was it eye-opening. While I could have hours-long conversations with professors in my now uni, the "dream uni" had NO ONE to see me, just students doing tours, answering questions, and handling paperwork. I had to physically come into the advisor's office to speak to them.

Needless to say, smaller institutions are almost always better at caring about their students.
