Once highlight is the Octarius War between the Nids and the Orks keeps escalating, until suddenly the unthinkable happens: the two races fuse and become this unstoppable juggernaut. I wonder what GW's final goal with the Tyranids is.

I know they're holding them as this dark, foreboding threat, but at some point that boom is going to drop, and we know they can't afford to actually end the story. My my money is on them coming in a final, supposedly overwhelming swarm that wipes out an unspecified large number of planets, only to be stopped by an alledgedly one-time alliance between the factions alle Star Wars' Yuuzon Vong saga.

For those that don't know, the YV saga is an old EU storyline that featured a massive extra-galactic invasion by aliens wielding bio-mechanic weapons, who forced the new Republic, remnants of the Empire, and even the Hutts to work together in order to beat them back. I suspect that like that saga (which may have provided some inspiration, come to think of it) this will end with the Tyranids relegated to a far more minor power in the galaxy itself: still a threat, but not an immediate, galaxy-ending one.

Likely, with some rumors mentioning that something was chasing the Tyranids in their ravenous race in the void, that something will be held up as a new looming threat to be brought up in a few years...probably when GW needs sees interest in Warhammer 40k waning a bit, so they'll bring it out to drum up enthusiasm the same way the Horus Heresy did.
