Returning to Coruscant after bleeding a kyber crystal and constructing his Sith lightsaber, tension filled Emperor Palpatine’s office as Darth Vader burst in unannounced, interrupting a meeting between Mas Amedda, Moff Tarkin and Darth Sidious on the progress of the Death Star project. Darth Vader was unknown to anyone other than his master, and his threatening presence triggered the two Royal Guards’s instincts to protect the Emperor. Igniting their force pykes and preparing to strike, their blind bravery was met with fierce retaliation as Vader used the Force to hurl them into the expansive window, leaving them crumpled and unconscious on the floor. Tarkin stepped between this unknown threat and the Emperor, while Mas Amedda, the Emperor’s Grand Vizier, cowered behind Palpatine’s throne. Palpatine reassured Tarkin that he was perfectly safe and dismissed the Moff and Amedda, anxious to learn if his new apprentice had completed his first task as a Sith Lord.

Say what you will about Tarkin, but the fact that he was willing to stand up to an unknown super human that just casually took out two royal guards to defend the emperor is impressive

In fairness to Mas Ammeda, he actually knows Palpatine’s a power sith lord. As far as I can tell, I dont think there is ever specific confirmation that Tarkin explicitly knew of Palpatine’s strength
