This is macOS Ventura’s Best New Feature

Apple with macOS Ventura and iOS 16 introduced a new feature called Continuity Camera, which is designed to allow you to use an iPhone as a webcam for your Mac. This is enabled through special mounts, and Apple partnered with Belkin for an official Continuity Camera accessory.

The Belkin ‌iPhone‌ Mount with MagSafe for Mac Notebooks is available from Apple for $30, though it's backordered until December and difficult to get. It's the only official Continuity Camera mount so far, though you can find some knockoffs and other versions on Amazon.

Thanks for this video, cool to see this new feature in action. Also, a little video tip (I’m a videographer) - it looks like you’re using a super shallow f-stop like 1.4 or 2.8 on your product close-ups, but then your in focus area is super thin like only 2-3 inches . But you can use a higher F-stop like 5.6 or 8 or more and you’ll have a larger focus area. It’s super hip on YouTube these days to do the shallow depth of field thing but it can be overdone and most Hollywood film shots are actually done at f4 or higher.

Why didn’t you make the FaceTime app run full screen? We would have been able to gauge the quality easier.

My biggest beef is that to use the desk-view, you need to have the laptop sitting on the desk (I usually use a lifter for video calls) and you have to tilt the screen almost past vertical towards you so you can barely see the rest of the people on the zoom call... other than that it's so cool how this works.

On the video it did not look like a lot of change from the 1080 camera on the MBP versus the iPhone. Is the change noticeable?

This feature would be useful when the clamshell is closed and plugged into an external monitor so a WebCam purchase is not needed.

This feature only works if you have 2FA activated, but if you still own older Macs which have OS X and prevent you from using 2FA with your Apple ID, than you can’t use it with your new Mac at all.

Tbh, on Zoom calls, most people have HD turned off. I generally don't wish to be seen in ultra detail on calls and neither do most people I speak with. At least on business calls.
