This week, we have a nice mix of gadgets and software to talk about. First, Andrew tries to convince Marques and David why a pair of $4,500 pants might be worth the money before everyone gives their thoughts on the new Friend AI wearable. After that, we talk about Apple Intelligence (or lack thereof) in the new iOS Beta before talking about the launch of SearchGPT from OpenAI. To wrap it up Marques gives his quick thoughts on the new Nothing Phone 2a Plus before getting into trivia. Hope you enjoy!

it’s funny to hear them dunk on AI and then have an ad for meta AI 😂

Having been in the hospital since Tuesday with a new MS diagnosis at 30 years old, I must say the bonus episode and this episode coming across my notification feed is even more refreshing than normal! 🎉

I think just having a Boston Dynamics Spot carrying all your stuff is nicer than having a weird exoskellie to strap on.

Is there a frame rate issue 3 minutes into the video?

I think the “Skip” pants are actually most comparable to e-bikes, specifically how they’ve taken off among people who would’ve never biked in the first place. All the good ones are in the $5-7k range, yet people are absolutely willing to spend $100 and rent them for a day (or even purchase them at sticker price). Most of those renters are people who never would’ve biked in the first place, so it’s awesome to see more people biking and on the trails!

I think Andrew hit on but backed away from a very important point about this friend AI thing. Lonely people will be sucked in and are being sucked in by Replica and Character AI and it is a silent tragedy. People will substitute all social interactions with those fancy autocompletes to remain in their comfort zone or because they feel like you can't get social interaction otherwise. An AI will never argue with you, will never push and challenge you, will never treat you like a friend will and I'm extremely worried for what it means for people who won't develop those skills.

That “boop” after Marques says “a belt buckle would be wild” needs to be a sound bite!

The augmented pants would have been life-changing when my mom was alive after knee replacement multiple times

Is the camera on Andrew and David lagging? Or is it just me? 3:50

The FPS lag around 3:00 and beyond was driving me nuts. I thought that Elis and Adam were trying to be sly with us and lag the video a bit when David said "lag" during Andrews dissertation on Skip Pants.
